Mitch's is a dependable, greasy spoon diner located at the edge of the East End neighborhood on Main St. Your staple breakfast items can be found here including grits and corned beef hash. They're also one of the few places downtown - if not the only - to offer sage and Alabama sausages.
Breakfast sandwiches are available on a roll, bagel or plain white bread. I reccommend the roll. It's pillowy soft with just a hint of sweetness. My favorite sandwich is a pork sausage, egg and cheese on a roll. It's put together perfectly every time and so satisfying!
Their lunch menu is no joke either - bacon cheeseburgers, grilled cheese fries and
FISH AND GRITS I didn't grow up eating fish and grits, but lemme tell ya... people came from the next town over just to have some! Friday and Saturday mornings were always crazy busy with these orders! The filet itself is a nice size and fried to perfection. I almost couldn't finish it.
They also have on their menu an Asian Style Chicken and Rice that is literally one of the best meals I have had in my entire time in Rochester and I would count the days until I could have it again. (I didn't have to count long.)
It's made with boneless chicken thighs that have been marinated the night before with a house recipe. I always opted for the peppers, onions and scrambled egg addition to fill it out a bit. You can see it the accompanying picture.
My obsession with this dish bordered on foolish and I had to get a gym membership to supplement my 5 mile a day walking habit just so I wouldn't have early onset heart disease. It's that good.
The space isn't much to look at. It's been there for years in an almost dilapidated looking business district that I fear is on it's way out now that gentrification is encroaching. It's a little dusty, a little dingy, but I've never found it to be anything but clean. I'll be sad...
Read moreFor two orders of pancakes mind you the pancakes did not have eggs nor sausage links. We’re talking just pancakes. and a steak plate I paid almost $35 which is crazy that’s overpriced as hell and then it’s not even a real steak. It’s chopped up little pieces of steak. They do not fully cook through the onions nor the peppers the potatoes are halfway cooked, semi hard in the middle and it is very very over season. It is not worth the money. I would say just pass on by. Don’t even stop. I really don’t know what people are going there feeding for maybe the high cholesterol and bad food. All you taste on the steak is salt and pepper unpleasantly and then the pancakes were just straight butter not no other flavor just butter. Mind you I’m a ever PEPPER food because I was OVER CHARGED but I’ll NEVER go...
Read moreI'd never been here before and was surprised by the busyness. This is your typical greasy spoon serving the usual fare of breakfast food. The grill is within eyeshot of every seat the smell of food cooking and being prepared fills the air. This place did not disappoint in food. The food was delicious hot and ready. I had corned beef hash with eggs and pancakes. The portions for the price was well worth it. If you go there, do not go by the appearance Order your food ,sit down and be amazed by what comes out from behind the counter. I would Definately come back. Oh yea.. bring cash....
