This hurts me to post this because my fiance and I loved this place so much 😢. Whenever we would go out for breakfast, the conversation would go, "We goin' out for breakfast?"..."Half & Half?" And 7 times out of 10, we would say yes. But as you all know, and for those of you who don't, I am a long time Restaurateur and former director of operations of a wonderful group in DC and San Francisco. Regardless, here is why we decided never to go back to H&H.
We walked in at 9:00am on a Saturday morning and the restaurant looked as if it had just come off a push (busy spell) or was just starting to pick up, we approached the host and was directed to our seat. Ladies and gentlemen, we sat there and waited for 7 whole minutes, with the dirtiest glasses i had ever seen to keep us company. I eventually had to get up and ask the host if someone was going to serve us. Now, when I asked, the host didn't answer the question but walked away. So, I returned to my seat.
Enter a lanky, goofy looking, african american server..unkempt...and who looked like he had a smell (unconfirmed), whose name I did not get (his name is not worth remembering), but he casually walks over and asks what we would like to drink. We answer, and he walks away. Goofy stops at another table, who we overheard say he had been MIA for a while, and engaging in a one-sided joke session with the table who, like us, was over the waiting. 3 minutes later, our "server" returned to our table with my beverage but had to ask my wife what she had to drink....needless to say, we were frustrated.
Goofy leaves the table, and we set a timer. We made a bet. My wife bet he would return in less than a minute....I've been in the business for a while, and I bet he would take another 3 minutes. If she won, we would stay. If I won, we would leave. Right at the 3 minute mark, we placed a 5 dollar bill on the table and got up to leave. We didn't want to cause a fuss, but as we were leaving, Goofy, at another table said "oh, they're leaving. Well, have a nice day!" We were already outside of the door, but when I heard that, I knew it was time to make a fuss.
I walked back in and found the manager who I had spoken to before about how much I loved the establishment and explained the situation. To her credit, she listened. To her discredit, she offered to be our server. Why would she do that? As a manager, you're needed on the floor. A manager serving tables isn't something a manager shouldn't volunteer to do. But, to each their own.
Anyway, after some soul searching, we decided never to go back. We are also not saying that no one should go, but maybe not get the Goofy server. Ask for someone with a little more respect for...
Read moreMy twin sister wanted to take my mom and I out to breakfast this morning after my Dr appointment. We live in South County. We wanted to try something different. This was our fist time going to half and half. There customer service and there hospitality was not good it suck. We felt invisible we almost walk out I wish we did. This is why. The severs look right at us and just keep walking pass us not asking if we been help. We wait over half an hour until my mom had call a sever to come over to our table. The sever said he did not know if he was even our sever or not he was confused. He did take our orde and apologized. After we order some of our food came out. Then we had to wait again for the rest of our food to come out. This lady came over to let us know that our food went to others customer. I do not know if she was a manager or a owner. At lest she come over to let us know what was going on with our food. Our sever did not come over to let us know about what happened with our orde. I take it that the severs apparently don't know what they're doing at that place. It felt like this was their first time being severs. It wasn't even busy. And our sever did not even brother to check up on us to see if we need anything else Not at all the hold time we was there. If they was short staff they could of let u know we would have understood. I don't Know how much the bill was before the lady I was talking about earlier she said she took some off the bill. the bill was 75. Dallers.. For 75 dallers they need to get better Hospitality and in customer service. And what the employees was wearing was very unprofessional and was unappropriate this young girl a Hostess and a busser was wearing a t-shirt longer than her shorts we could not tell if she was even wearing shorts and this woman sever was wearing these tight shorts I think it was very unappropriate. Thats why they should have been all in uniforms. We was very disappointed We will not be back I had to give at lest one stars for I can Post but If I did not have to I wouldn't have...
Read moreI read another review that was almost identical to our experience. We were excited to try a new place and get steak and eggs for my husband's birthday. We got there not long after opening (about 8:15-8:30) and there wasn't a big crowd. So we went in and I greeted the host excitedly, "Morning!!" His response was "How can I help you?" I froze, at a loss for words, because that's not usually what hosts ask. And seeing as we were at a restaurant, was it not painfully obvious how he could help? It almost felt like he was saying "You don't belong here", and our subsequent service seemed to reflect that sentiment. We were sat, but no one came to see us for at least ten minutes. The one server I saw was chatting with some folks who I could tell came there frequently and knew him. Then he went and poured water for other tables and took their orders. We didn't even have water yet. We sat. And waited. And waited. We talked about leaving. We might as well have been part of the architecture for the amount of attention we were getting. Finally, someone, who was not our server, came and apologized for the long wait (but did not give a reason WHY the wait was long; the place wasn't THAT busy when we got there) and took our drink orders. She said our server would be with us soon. She came back with our drinks, and we STILL had not met our server. Long story short: the food and drinks were great, the service was appalling. We are an interracial couple and are somewhat used to getting dirty looks, but not subpar service. I can't say that our races impacted our service, but it sure felt that way from the start. I contemplated going full "Karen" and asking to speak to a manager, but didn't want that kind of negativity on my husband's birthday. Bottom line, we're not going back. They don't seem to need our patronage anyway, they care more about their regulars, than...
