Celebrated Mother's Day with lunch at the Kingside Diner in Clayton. It was an enjoyable experience.

The menu had a variety of choices for breakfast and lunch from pancakes and omelets to flatbread, sandwiches, and salads. The coffee selections were tempting as well as the adult beverages.

Our food was fresh, flavorful, and seasoned well. The Breakfast Salad was delicious with the poached egg and avocado. The pancakes were large. The Corn+Beef+Hash=Diner was a play on words, but good. It's not from a can. There were chunks of meat mixed with hash brown potatoes and vegetables.

We really didn't care for the flatbread. The bread/crust was dry and lacked flavor.

The decor was upscale, clean and simple with a focus on a Chess theme. The acoustics in the restaurant made it difficult to hear conversation. The space was filled with people's voices and sounds of activity.

There were at least two private eating areas which would be ideal for small lunch meetings.

A significant positive regarding our experience was handicapped accessibility. From the street, entering the restaurant appeared nearly improbable. We parked in the Bonhomme Parking garage on Level 4. There is an entrance on that level straight into the restaurant!

There is a fee to park in the garage, and street level has metered parking.

I recommend trying the Kingside Diner for lunch...

First time trying Kingside Diner and it was fantastic! Parking was a little confusing initially bc we couldn't see the restaurant sign from where we were at. Park on the street near the trattoria and you'll be golden! I ordered the damn delicious and the cinnamon pecan roll latte. The damn delicious was...well it was damn delicious! Could have used more gravy, but it was still great! The latter was a bit too sweet for me, but I like to taste the espresso in a latte more than the add ins. My dad got the French toast and it was wonderful! Quite possibly the best I've ever had. Very buttery bread and not soggy at all. Their syrup is wonderful as well. My mom got the #5 omelette and it was great! It had a really good sauce inside. The only thing that was a bit different was the pancake my daughter got. The texture is a bit different. It's not bad, but it's not something I'd order when we go back. It was more spongy than it was fluffy. Great experience overall and the atmosphere is lovely. Looking forward to...

I used to love Kingside, but I had a terrible experience at this specific kingside diner. When my food came out everything was great aside from my eggs. I ordered sunny side up but they came out way too raw (the whites around the yolk were not cooked ~1/2 inch diameter around the yolk). When I asked the server if they could be remade because they were too raw, she said "that's just how we make them here" and I then stated that no, sunny side up eggs have cooked whites with a still raw yolk. She offered to take them back and I agreed that they could make them over easy if it made it easier on the chef to get it right. I received the new eggs, cut partially into it, and sure enough, still raw. After having argued with the waitress, I was already really agitated, so I told her not to worry about it. I just didn't eat the eggs. She was extremely rude throughout my entire visit, but she at least took the eggs off...

I really liked this place. I grew up in Alabama, so it was nice to see a country fried steak on the menu. I ate all but the last bite before remembering to take a photo. It was disappointingly small, but completely delicious, and with the rest of the plate I didn't feel underfed. I also ordered coffee, which I rarely do - at home all I drink is Dunkies, cold, half milk, with a lot of Splenda, but I was craving that diner/truckstop coffee from my door to door sales days, and this was delightfully reminiscent, full bodied and tasty. Had a whole glass of whole milk with it. Wife had French toast with berries, and a hamsteak. The decor was chess-themed. St Louis has a thriving chess community, and there were photos from the chess museum here in town. There are several stores. If the others are as good as this one, there should be one near anyone in the area. Folks, if you like diners, try this one. I'll be going back.

Stopped in for breakfast with the wife. It was seat yourself and we found a spot we liked. As I walked in I noticed the theme of chess everywhere. Aesthetic was nice and the place was clean. Waitress was nice enough to get us our menus and a water bottle for the table. However after we ordered I felt like the lack of needing to give refills prompted a much longer delay to her coming back to the table to eventually get boxes and our check. The food looked appealing and was plated decently. I’m no food critic, but my French toast left me longer for more. There wasn’t a lot of flavor in the toast or even the syrup. A bit bland overall. My wife’s skillet was pretty good. No complaints and the eggs were poached well (as ordered). Overall a positive experience but was not wowed enough to justify coming back before trying out other places in the area first.
