I'll probably be in the minority on my review...(u can call it high standards or being over picky). We were promptly greeted. Our server was very nice and the decor matched my expectations. I ordered the shrimp basket appetizer and my wife had the corn fritters. (STRIKE 1- I asked if we could substitute the oysters in the sampler and were told NO. Attention ownership: u DO whatever the customer asks to make them happy) We were crossing our fingers that it wasn't another case of flash frozen crap that we're used to from the 'chain' restaurants. To our pleasant surprise, it wasn't. I could easily tell that hand-flour dipped fresh shrimp. My wife loved her corn fritters! It would have been nice to try the crawfish from the sampler, but because of stingy rules regarding substitutions, we were denied. We were, though, feeling good about our pending entrees....that is until we actually received them. (STRIKE 2- We received our appetizer in a basket and our drinks in styrofoam cups. I was totally fine with that. THEN we get our entree dumped in us in a plastic bag!!??!?!?....REALLY?) Presentation, to me, is important. Don't get me wrong, the food was quite good, but the way it was slopped in this bag left ALOT to be desired! I wasn't expecting fine-dining China by any means, but I also wasn't expecting to dig around a plastic bag for a $20+ meal either. We may/may not come back...again perhaps I'm in the minority on this detail...just my $.02 on the issue...($68.00 to be exact). Would I reccommend? If it was purely based on the quality of the food, I would certainly say YES. But for the $$$, I...
Read moreOk folks, it’s important to know what to expect from this type of dining. The place is a half decent knockoff of “Hot and Juicy Crawfish” in Las Vegas. See “man vs food” episode for more detail. Here the experience is to get spicy crawfish when IN SEASON ( May to August) and other items when crawfish are out of season. In season the crawfish are larger, tender and not previously frozen. This is MAJOR difference in the dining experience. This is a fun place to hang out and eat messy food with friends and enjoy a cold beer, but far, far away from a seafood restaurant with high quality food, great presentation, and fine dining.
PROS: Great spices, fresh crawfish in season, different dining experience (messy and eating with hands, gloves provided), variety of seafood and dishes, extremely casual, small eclectic crowd and fun place to be. Takeout is available.
CONS: Prices constantly changing, look at wallboard! Pricey. (no competition) Service is often shaky with most of wait staff(drink refills, more food) spice flavor not always consistent for choices picked, dishes out slow, worse if busy,
Bottom line: Crawfish in season is a hit, the rest of the food is OK, service below average, flavors awesome, a bit pricey but a fun experience for a...
Read moreFirst, we came in 30 minutes before closing and it seemed like they didn't want to let us in unless we had already placed an order. We told them it was to go so we were reluctantly let in. I only mention this because another group of 3 men came in about 15 mins later and were sat down at a table to order. My mother ordered a po boy and I ordered 1lb of snow crab legs with a corn and potato. The po boy came with fries that were pretty much inedible. The po boy was ok, nothing to write home about. The crab legs were ok. I've had better at a lesser price. This may be a silly complaint but since we got our food to go we were missing a few important items. One, NO NAPKINS!!!! How do you give seafood to go with no napkins. Secondly I didn't get any plastic gloves. I noticed the couple who were finishing their food had gloves so I only expected to have gloves as well. I guess that wad a bad expectation. All in all, as a visitor to the city, this was not a good...
