Downright good NY style slice. From the ashes of Citizen Pie on E 4th rises Good, maybe even Great, Pizza.
Things inside are humble, clean, with a bit of zest. I don’t feel like I see a cream and citrus color palette much, but it works well and invites a sort of vintage feel. Order at the counter, by the slice or by the pie, and they’ll call out your given name when it’s ready. If it’s not too busy they’ll just bring it to you. Grab plates and napkins at the counter, and self serve water as well as parm and red pepper flakes from the station under the bookcase nearby. Canned sodas and beer also available from the grab and go fridge.
Our food came out pleasingly fast, as pizzas are constantly cooked and baked. Obviously the star of the show here is pizza, but you can whet your appetite with some of their focaccia bread (cheesy version available too) - and don’t forget to get some of their punchy marinara dipping sauce (extra $0.50). I wish the dipping sauce was served warm, but otherwise the perfect accompaniment to the herby bread.
We tried the Margherita, White, and Spicy Vodka - the crowd (and staff) favorite was the Spicy Vodka. Something about the spicy yet creamy tomato just makes your taste buds dance. Margherita was also tasty and fresh, and the White Pizza was surprisingly sweet with the inclusion of honey. The crust though! Crispy but not tough, and surprisingly airy. We went back for another round of Spicy Vodka.
Unlike a traditional NYC slice shop, there’s ample seating inside for you to enjoy your pizza so you don’t have to brave the Cleveland elements. Loved our first experience (and seeing a pizza nerd’s dream come to life), and certainly will be returning for the...
Read moreI was fortunate enough to be there for the soft opening, flying in from NJ where I've spent most of my life eating some of the worlds best pizza here in the NYC area. I've followed Charlie on YouTube for awhile now after I saw how methodical he was in perfecting every part of of making true NY style pizza at home. Fast forward to November 2024 when I found out that Charlie was opening up a place of his own in Cleveland. I had to try it. So I was able to get a ticket to the soft opening, flying in just for this and let me tell you - it was very much worth the trip! Crisp crust, perfect sauce/cheese ratio, you can tell that he's using quality ingredients in every bite . The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the basil leaf on the slice, but that was easy enough to take off and not a showstopper. I can't recommend Good Pizza Cleveland enough for someone looking for an authentic New York slice that can run with some of the top slice...
Read moreIn a sea of thick crust Good Pizza is making NY style thin crust, and they are making it RIGHT! I'm blown away. I fell in love with NY style while at school in the Hudson valley, making train trips to the city on the weekends, and I've been chasing it ever since. I'm done chasing now... This is it. This is the slice that I had in NYC. This is the foldable, crispy charred crust, bubbling with pockets of bright tomato sauce and mozzarella. Finished with olive oil and freshly shredded Parm. Lovingly topped with fresh basil leaves.
I forgot to mention, I ordered at 3pm.... Online.... For a 4:30pm pickup. And wouldn't you know it, my pizza was coming out of the oven right when I walked in. Not waiting in a box, steaming.
Otherwise the place is SUPER clean. Lots of tables. And...
