Update: I've lowered the rating of this place from a 2 star to a 1 star. After my prior review, I wanted to see if GC just had an off day. Sadly, it did not. Terrible service, once again. The place was nearly empty of customers. None of the staff gave us silverware or served our drinks for over 25 minutes. There wasn't any silverware to be found at the dish stations or cashiers' area, either. Seems they hide it from their customers. So, we sat for 15 minutes staring at our salad until I went to the office and found someone to help us. It took another 10 minutes to actually get our utensils. and drinks. The food offered (except salad bar) was awful looking, dried out, cold and devoid of any taste. The ice cream machine was broken and very little desserts (most sugar-free) were offered. The salad bar had the only fresh and edible things to eat. For the ridiculous price paid, it wasn't worth the terrible food served. This definitely wasn't another off day Golden Corral had. It is the only way they do business. Never again will I come here. Bad experiences over and over. I've eaten here many times in the past and always thought it was a decent place. However, my last visit change everything. While it was a Friday (3:30 pm), it wasn't as busy as it usually is. No one waiting in line to pay. Table selection, plentiful. Salad bar was decent, lots of veggies and fruits available and they were fresh. Yeast rolls were very good, too. That's where it ended, though. The soups are just chili and one other type. Today's soup was thick, pasty, burnt, crusty...awful looking. All their varieties of rice looked good; however, they were ALL super cold... just brought out of the refrigerator, maybe? The baked potatoes were exactly the same. All very COLD. The other side dishes ranging from cooked dishes of meats, vegetables, pizza, etc. looked and tasted terrible. But the biggest disappointment was the steak entree and the so-called cook. He was very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. When I asked for another piece of steak (because the serving size was extremely small) he growled, "that's the best I can do". When nicely asked again and even pleaded for another small piece, he got mad at me and slapped down a grizzly, fatty piece and splashed meat juice everywhere. I walked away, stunned. Awful man, awful service. I had the waitress toss them out without ever eating it. Wish I could have a better rating for the woman who waited on tables- getting drinks. She was fine, intended on tipping, (yes tipping at a buffet) however, she got a nasty attitude. While waiting approximately 15 mins for her to refill my empty drink, I politely asked her to refill it when she found some time. Glaring at me, she grabbed the empty glass, refilled it to the very rim and then slide it across my table, spilling a lot of it and making a complete mess. WTH?? NO tip for this woman, just a BAD review for her. Why does GC hire these misfits? I can't believe what has happened to a once decent buffet. For the type of service and food, it is overly priced. There is no fun coming here anymore. Golden Corral isn't very golden anymore. It's...
Read moreToday my family and I arrived at Golden Corral in Sterling Heights Michigan and were extremely disgusted with what we saw.
After paying (over $60) we finally found a table that was clean. When we went to the bar, we saw nothing but food thrown all over the floor, the bar was disgustingly dirty, and completely empty. Servers and the manager were just walking through the food all over the floor, never cleaning anything at all. It was so bad, I decided to take photos as well for you.
After sitting down, it took us 15 minutes to get silverware, and over 25 min to get drinks. Our server never cleared the plates from our table when needed either.
As for at the bar; the woman doing the steaks was more interested in flirting and trying to get a date with a customer than actually helping customers, cleaning anything, or even putting steaks on the grill. The salad bar was basically full of rotting fruit and slimy lettuce.
At the desert bar, there was chicken on the floor, food everywhere. My biggest concern was the fact that there were peanuts all over the bar, mixed into other toppings, on the cookies, on the brownies, etc. As someone with an extreme nut allergy, this type of cross contamination is deadly, let alone disgusting.
For $60 my family and I ate one plate of food that was cold by the time we got our silverware because the bar was empty and never refilled. I understand that places may be short staffed but that is not an excuse for any of this. If the health department would have walked in, the place would have been closed immediately….and honestly should have. When the manager, the staff, the servers, and guests are having to walk through food on the floor and nothing is being cleaned or refilled, that’s awful. We have been here several times and this is the most disgusting restaurant I have ever seen.
The photos shown below are just some of the photos I took. The entire restaurant...
Read moreIt's very disheartening to have a cook and location manager argue with me over a meat temperature request! I prefer my steaks RARE. I made this request and the cook handed me a medium cooked slice. I said, " No, no, that's medium I want rare, so I will wait." The manager put another steak on the grill, after about 90 seconds I asked her to flip it. She gave me a funny look and then flipped it. After another 90 seconds I informed the cook it was ready. He started to give me a medium-rare slice but I stopped him and informed him it was too cooked and pointed to the piece that was perfectly cooked. He said, "I can't serve that to you." I said, "Yes, you can, I requested rare and that piece is prefect." He argued, then stated, "There are rules up in dis here place, it's too raw, it's not even cooked." I informed him that the piece was perfectly rare as I had requested, and that rare means cool in the center. He continued arguing and then finally placed the meat on my plate and stated, "You won't catch me eatin' it like that." I requested the manager, she explained that too many patrons requested nearly raw steaks that they could steal them from the restaurant. I explained that I have never had a restaurant or ANY Golden Corral tell me they could NOT serve me a steak the way I requested. She continued arguing their policy until I acquiesced. A few minutes later she brought out a medium-rare steak and set it on my table explaining that this is they way they cook a rare steak. I told her it was medium-rare and that I could not eat it and was full. She said, "I can't take it back now."
