Our family is new to Florida about a year ago and we have frequently visited this establishment and have always enjoyed it except for the very last visit and experience we had put a bad taste in our mouth so we stayed away for a little bit. We decided to give it a try again because one bad experience shouldn’t mark what has always been a good vibe and food for us and all our previous experiences. We were sadly disappointed on tonight’s visit as well we had a waitress who seemed to possibly be new or so she did not seem very experienced like some of the others we have had before when we have been there but here everyone deserves a chance. We know exactly what all we ordered we were a family of 6 and we like to try multiple things so we started with our drinks a tea, a water and 4 soda pops and a mock tail (which is typically what we always order) we then got 3 appetizers lamb meatballs, calamari and mozzarella sticks (I remember there being more then 4 to an order last time we got them). Now our meals were 2 shrimp baskets, 2 chicken tender baskets, a kids pasta and marinara, and the tin can nachos with cheese. Mind you my son originally ordered Gator bites but they were out so he was informed his food would probably be out late since it was having to be corrected late. My other son got his nachos first and it was just cheese and chips and a side of sour cream which he did not ask for but nothing else on the nachos lol. The waitress did notice and came right over and took them to be fixed. She brought them back and the cheese was ice box cold and my son wouldn’t eat it. By then my 1 shrimp basket can out and no other food. Then about 5 mins later the kids pasta and 2 chicken tenders baskets came out and the chicken was a great size but they were burnt and hard to eat. But the fries were cold and you could tell had been sitting out under a warmer or something. We then asked for some more ranch and waitress informed us that she has to retrieve that from the kitchen and it would be a little while but she would get us some so my husband gave his up for the kids and he ate ketchup just so we wouldn’t have to wait any longer. Then about 5 more mins later the other shrimp basket came out. We also ran into another new thing apparently they limit your refills now to no more then 3 and that was crazy to us because we just came from a hot day at the beach and everyone was it and thirsty! I think they gulped down their first 2 glasses within first few mins of arriving by time we were informed!! We usually always leave a very good tip because it is just what we do but they now adjust an automatic 15% gratuity on the check we observed and I let me husband pay rather then myself and he did not review the check in detail and I am highly disappointed because I did the math and our check even with the gratuity should not have been nowhere near $200!! 😱 I’m still trying to figure out what the heck we were...
Read moreI decided to give this place a chance even though I had been there a couple times over thirty years when it was captain J’s and it was horrible. Parked across the street and had to pay $3.50 per hour, it said restaurants will validate parking on the receipt. They did not. Got there and we were told to wait because they didn’t want the kitchen to get backed up even though there was plenty of empty tables. Another party walked in behind us and were immediately sat. Once we were seated we ordered 3 pina coladas. They were not frozen. It was literally pina colada mix with a shot of rum dumped on top. They couldn’t even be bothered to mix them. They were in a small 12 oz plastic cup. We were charged $15 each! $45 for 3 drinks! My sister ordered a shrimp salad with no avocado and ranch dressing. It came out with avocado and had vinaigrette dressing already on it with a side of ranch. She didn’t realize the vinaigrette was on it until after she added the ranch dressing and tasted it. She said it wasn’t edible. She ate the shrimp only. Our waiter didn’t come around to ask how everything was until the rest of us were done eating. He immediately saw the avocado she had taken off and apologized and admitted he should have come around sooner. He brought the check and didn’t take the salad off or comp a drink so my sister asked if she could at least have the salad taken off the check and only pay for the shrimp she had eaten. Instead they charged her for half. The salad was $16 she added the shrimp for $6 so she paid $11 for the shrimp they normally charge $6 to add on. I absolutely do not recommend this place. Any restaurant that charges you to park then charges $15 per drink then can’t get an order right or even check on you after the food comes out is automatically off my list. I will not be back. It was horrible when it was captain J’s. Nothing has changed. It’s...
Read moreGreat view, but the new management had a hard time getting anything right other than the fried foods. We ordered virgin piña coladas, which were rancid. The server kindly brought another round that still tasted like the mix had gone bad. The paltry glass of white wine looked more like a shot. One of the two beers was skunked. Then the food came. Kids rejected the mac and cheese and the buttered noodles were a watery pile of mush with probably less than a pat of butter on it. The blackened fish wasn't what I'd call blackened. All of the food was under-seasoned, which the manager didn't appear to understand meant under salted. When the manager approached us, he just kinda stood there and glared at us awkwardly for about 10 seconds before he could think of what to say. "What seems to be the problem?" he finally uttered. You'd think on Mother's Day, you'd figure out something better to break the ice with. I don't think he apologized once. His attitude was basically, ok so what do you want? He did comp a round of drinks, but again, one of the beers was skunked. To boot, after we left the restaurant, the kids told us that he hollered at them... in the kids play area they had setup with cornhole and some other games. If I didn't know any better, they have a failing refrigeration system that isn't able to keep the proper temperature and instead of getting it fixed, they serve food and beverage that has gone bad. Clearly, this is a tourist trap with a wasted view. They really could care less about the food. It's about getting liquored at the bar. Mind you, this place was nearly empty, save for handful of people getting sloshed at the bar and the 2 forgettable DJs who snickered while we expressed our disappointment to the manager. Don't even think about ordering anything here except the fried food. They even managed to mess up the Budweiser...
