I was totally blown away by how wonderfully accommodating the staff of this restaurant was. Howard, who I think was an owner or at least a manager, was so lovely. We came with a party of nine people, meeting halfway from various locations to celebrate three birthdays. Immediately, he helped us make sure we had plenty of room for gifts and wouldn’t be squished. They allowed us to bring my mom’s homemade birthday cake, and even some snacks for the kids who don’t eat shrimp. We all arrived at different times, and I wanted to order some drinks while we waited for everyone to arrive. They were so sweet, just handing me the cups and telling me not to worry about it and we could just ring it up later when we ordered our food. Every single interaction with someone at this restaurant was so pleasant and friendly. I’m always a little self conscious when I’m with a big party because I don’t want to be difficult, but these lovely people never made me feel guilty or like I was asking for too much or like they were annoyed with us at all.
The environment of the restaurant is casual and friendly, with skateboards on the walls and long wooden tables with a combination of bench seats and chairs. For us, it was perfect because we were looking for the kind of place we could relax and enjoy our celebration without being disruptive. A nice touch was the sink in the main dining area - No need to take up the bathroom to wash your hands before or after your meal.
Despite the awesomeness of everything else, the food itself was easily the best part of the experience. The menu is small enough that it’s possible to try every single flavor of shrimp, and that’s exactly what we did. They were all fantastic. Cooked perfectly, sauced generously, and served on a bed of the most delicious garlic butter rice. We were especially blown away by the coco shrimp tacos. They tasted like pure happiness wrapped in a homemade tortilla. They were filled with perfectly breaded coconut shrimp that delicious garlic butter rice, fresh lettuce, and a really tasty sauce. The lemon herb shrimp were just the right amount of tart and buttery, and the butter garlic were almost overwhelmingly delicious in the best way. These were the stand outs, but every single flavor was unique and delicious. We also enjoyed the salad, which was more than just a basic salad. We tried the ginger, poppyseed, and cilantro lime dressing, and we enjoyed all three of them. The ginger dressing was a favorite because it was sweet without being overwhelming for those who are sensitive to the ginger flavor.
It was obvious to us that they put care into every single component of every meal right down to the sauces and salad dressings. Nothing looked like an afterthought, and because of that, we’re still talking about the experience a day later, searching for Coco Shrimp locations in each of our home areas. We meet halfway for lunch often, and are always open to new restaurants, but Coco Shrimp was easily the best experience we’ve had so far and will absolutely be at the top of our list for future...
Read moreLet's start positive, the food here was delicious! I ordered the sampler which comes with three flavors of your choice. I ordered the coco shrimp, sweet and spicy, and butter garlic. All three were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Each box comes with shrimp, rice and salad and the portions were better than expected. The salad was great, although I picked out all the craisins. The rice comes buttered which I also liked. They offer two salad dressing options Creamy Ginger and Poppyseed Vinaigrette. I chose the poppyseed and it was spectacular! I loved it. I noticed the website says there's also a cilantro lime sauce, which may be coming in the future, but I didn't see it on the menu during my visit. The only reason I gave 4 stars to the atmosphere was because of the building itself. There are three entrances and the location of the ordering counter makes it really difficult to figure out where to stand or whose turn it is next as patrons are entering from all sides of the building and there's just not enough space to form a logical line. Service was quick, we were in line less than 6 minutes and staff asked us to rearrange ourselves more than once in those 6 minutes so others could pass by or make there way into the line. It was crowded and confusing. The way they deliver orders is also a bit chaotic. They don't provide numbers for you to take to your table or call out your name/order number when it's done. They just had staff walking around with the food asking each table if it was theirs. They had a name, but it was loud in the building and our server was very quiet so we couldn't hear who she was asking about until she was at our table. Despite the disorder, staff was very friendly, service was quick, and our food was excellent. I...
Read moreDropped in College Station on the presumption that I was visiting Houston, Tx until I was given the hotel address to where the United Kingdom team was staying for their tournament. Killing so time during their training sessions, I assumed it would be a good idea to get out and find a happy hour for small bites and drinks. Riding around, my eye was set for anything swank. After stopping by Fish Daddy's and learning they did not have a happy hour and not finding any thing that I was looking for on the menu. I was directed to Velvet Taco. Before arriving I noticed this really swank restaurant with a great patio and decided to circle around to get a better look. Coco Shrimp was the place. Entering, I was warmly greeted by the shift manager and she quickly explain their option and provide me her suggestion. I am so glad I listen. The Coco Shrimp tacos were beyond amazing with bursting Hawaiian flavors. With each bite my taste buds where amazed at what they were tasting from this order at the counter establishment. I could only think of how much business they must get from the college kids with such tasty food options wrapped in a taco. Now I will be on the hunt for that amazing shrimp taco and a Coco...
