Dos Dos is easily one of my favorite places for tacos.
I usually get the double decker tacos with al pastor or carne asada, and I’ve tried most of the menu by now. Aside from the birria options, which just aren’t my thing personally, everything has been solid. Their bowls, burritos, nachos, and chips are all worth trying.
Out of maybe 20 visits, I’ve only had two small issues, both from the kitchen side.
Once, the kids’ quesadilla took forever, so the rest of the food sat ready and started cooling off. The server kept checking in, but there was some back-and-forth with the cook that slowed things down. It looked like they were just getting through the tail end of a rush, so it made sense—just wasn’t ideal.
Another time, everything was extremely salty—like hard to eat salty. That’s only happened once and hasn’t been an issue since, so maybe just an off night. Still worth mentioning.
All in all, the food keeps me coming back. For me, this just ticks all the boxes of what I want in a taco place/bar—and even with those couple hiccups, my experience here has been overwhelmingly positive. Even compared to what I’ve tried in the local spots in Mexico. I do lean more toward Tex Mex, so if you’re all about authentic, my opinion might not carry much weight—but I think Dos Dos strikes a really...
Read moreUpdate 8.11.24 Gave Dos Dos another try and this time was much better. Margaritas were good. Chips and queso were delicious. Got the birria tacos and a bowl with birria as well. Both were good. I really liked the mix of flavors on the bowl. Their hot sauce was absolutely wonderful. Great mix of heat with flavor. Guacamole was also tasty.
Well I wish I could actually write a review about the food, but unfortunately we were the forgotten table. Sat outside and were immediately brought menus and that's where it all ended. The waitress told us she'd bring back water and never did. Another couple came and sat down just a table away and received their water promptly. The waitress even made eye contact with us and still never came back. We sat their for 25 minutes. I finally went inside where the waitress was talking to the cooks. She made contact yet again and walked away. Now, I will say it was Saturday night and busy and she appeared to be the only waitress, but that's no excuse for forgetting about a table. Slow service sure but to just forget about a table, there's no excuse. Funny thing is we walked up tejon and back down looking for somewhere else to go and within the 8 minutes we were gone another couple sat exactly where we were and had their...
Read moreThe first thing I will say about this restaurant is that their portions are tiny. I mean really tiny. With that said, I ordered a quesabirra and a single pollo asado taco to go via GrubHub. The quesabirra was delicious, I won't even lie. It had lots of flavor and the birria meat was tender and juicy. The consomme was very good, enough to drink it by itself. That said, they give a good portion of consomme, oddly, since the quesabirra was only the size of 3 small tacos. I had expected a true quesadilla sized portion, but they really skimp out on portions, this thing costed about $14.50.
Moving on to the pollo asado taco. This was about 3 inches of taco for nearly $5. The chicken was very dry and the taco overall had very little flavor. I managed to get 2 bites out of this taco, but this is something where you could just shove the whole thing in your mouth. Because the chicken was so dry, and the fact that I had an abundance of consomme left over from my tiny quesabirra, I opted to dip my second bite into the consomme, which made it better.
Overall, I'm not impressed. I spent $23 on GrubHub for a meal that should have only costed about 7 bucks. The quesabirra was good, if you have money, do it. I don't recommend the pollo asado...
