07/23/2018-Review Update Thank you for the response. I honestly did not think I would receive any feedback, and want to again express that my typical experience with Laau's in the past has been excellent. For those reading the post the management did reach out to me to address the circumstances, which I appreciate. I do plan to go back to Laau's sometime and am hopeful the service will be the way it's typically been, friendly, attentive, and all around great food. Thank you!
07/26/2018 -I've come here several times and normally even when busy service is good. However today I went in when there were no customers waiting in line or for food and ordered tacos. 35 minutes later and 3 customers(who came in after me and received their food) in I go up to the counter to inquire about my order. The cashier was helpful , but came out with cold tacos and advised they made a mistake(left them someplace) and would cook fresh ones. No big deal ok. Another almost 30 minutes go by(multiple customers get food after me as well) nothing. I go back to the counter and finally advise I have to go back to work(I work close by). I left with in-edible tacos(the original ones from an hour ago were cold and wet through from sitting so long so they were trashed). I get these things happen people are human, but it would have been nice if someone just took a glance into the dining area , inquired why a customer had been sitting for an hour with no food, and taken a moment to just slow down ,say lets fix this, and got the customer...
Read moreMy wife has been here a few times and recommended that I go, so we went on a Saturday afternoon and there was only one other customer there. The parking lot for the small place is sandwiched between large buildings that include the art center and Colorado College Armstrong Hall. It has a modern downtown vibe and the place, including the bathrooms, was clean. Outside was a large patio but it was a bit too chilly. We ordered mahi mahi and spicy pork tacos, chips and guac, and a drink for $21 with a small tip. (The register POC machine defaults to a 25% percent tip, which is generous for ordering at the counter.) Five to ten minutes later, the cashier brought our drink and food to the table. (I don't know why he didn't give us the drink, guac, and chips right after we paid.) The tacos were on a wooden board, and I was first struck by how tiny they were. They were the smallest tacos I have ever seen: I felt like Gulliver being fed by Lilliputians. The mahi mahi tasted mostly like cabbage because the fish was so small. Both tacos had fruit. I'm not sure why the guac was served in a disposable cup for a dine-in order. It all was underwhelming, but my wife suggested I come back for the burritos. I'm more inclined to go to Taco Bell, Del Taco, La Casita, Taco Express, Chipotle, Qdoba---many...
Read moreIn the past, we LOVED La'au's. The food was so drastically different this time that you'd think ownership changed. If you liked it before they closed, I can almost promise you that you'll be disappointed going back now. The tacos are now $4-$5 each and have only a tiny sliver of 1 piece of meat. They also appear to be on tiny store bought corn tortillas which is far different from before. The tacos were large and stuffed with awesomeness in the past. Now they are ridiculously expensive and barely contain any substance. I saw where management claimed covid related reasons (supply and labor shortages) for the changes, but this simply is not accurate. The changes that have been made are poor business choices. Also, beware, the register defaults to a 20% tip for counter service. We won't return, but be aware that they have also discontinued the stamp card for return customers. Yet another example of the business choices made rather than the...
