This tucked around the corner gem has become a wonderful lunch date for the wife and I. Our first visit chasing a quality club on one of our rare dates was special. The ham was fresh cooked, still cooling and not ready for a cold sandwich, upon seeing our disappointment they offered it to us hot. Together it was all fresh, beautifully rustic ingredients put together without being sloppy, delicious each and every part. A true 5 star club I could eat literally everyday.
We returned a few weeks later randomly, to find the same amazing experience, and same quality ingredients done perfectly, with respect for the food and customer. The place has some wear, but it was immaculately clean, the bathroom was clean, the tables were clean. The crew here takes wonderful care of the ship, on top of the excellent food. I hope the owners are taking good care of them, because any restaurant would be proud have that kinda high detail staff.
Honestly, the wife and I became somewhat unintentional food snobs being stationed in Hawaii and spoiled with the highly competitive food scene there. 15 years later, we made our own herb crusted rack of lamb tonight at home for dinner, reminding us of other good foods and needing to recommend Grinder. You have to be able to compete with our high standard and what we can make at home to earn 5 stars. A review like this from us is rare, but we were genuinely impressed both times we ate here, they managed to stay in our head for meeting a standard where we found nothing at all to even kinda pick at, I mean not a single ounce of wilted of lettuce.
Grinder EARNED 5 stars from us, it’s the least we could do besides paying for our meal. Thank you for...
Read moreI did not go into the shop myself so I cannot speak to the customer service personally, but my husband thought they were nice and so does everybody else so no qualms there! I got the Johnny 2 and I was pretty underwhelmed. I picked it because the chicken is described as having a special soy marinade with some sort of ale which sounded extremely flavorful in my mind...but ultimately, it just tasted like a piece of chicken to me. Veggies were nice...really fresh. Cheese was a tad sparse for me...very little compared to the amount of meat. I ended up taking the chicken off and just eating it as a veggie sub. I'll probably try a different sandwich next time. It was a little pricey and I didn't get the wow I was hoping for. (Full disclosure - I came from the NorthEast and some of my disappointment may just come from regional differences in the interpretation of what a grinder sandwich is.) So you don't have to take my word for it (in my Reading...
Read moreI love this place so much. Everything is delicious, you can't go wrong. It's not like...meh deli meat or whatever it's all grilled or smoked or cooked or whatnot, to perfection. You can basically get any substitutes you want too, they're super willing to customize to your liking. And they're incredibly nice people!! They're from Chicago and being from metro Detroit I'm very used to Midwest hospitality...you will absolutely get that here! It's like the quintessential midwestern experience where after you leave you're friends with the owner, and when you come back he greets you like an old friend. I've had a few sandwiches here including the turkey melt, buffalo chicken, and the one that's grilled chicken on brioche and I probably need to get better at eating half and saving the other half for later because I'm way too stuffed afterwards. It's a LOT of food. Their soups are super good too!! Stop reading my review and just go there already :) you...
