I’ve have been coming to Mac’s since 2015. So before and After the rebrand. Today experience was hands down the best. The food was terrific today. I ordered the Shrimp and chips basket with the white cheddar Mac and cheese. Everything was piping hot and fresh. You get 8 jumbo shrimp full order of fries and a cup of Mac&Cheese. The fries and shrimp was crisp enough for me. I know some ppl say it wasn’t enough for them but I don’t overly like food extra crispy like if your bitting hard brittle candy. The Mac&Cheese is creamy enough. Definitely not like my mom’s but very impressive for a pub style. And my Waitress Erin was helpful polite and a good server. Took my order in a timely fashion and served all of my needs while I was there. I gave the atmosphere 2 star tonight because it was Sunday at 7pm when I was there and when I sat down there was only 3 ppl in the restaurant. So it was there slow period. But this place has a great atmosphere during peak hours for the 10 years I’ve have come. So in final Mac’s is a great place the food is excellent 90% of the time (only a couple of time I’ve come I have been 100% satisfied) and one of the best pub spot in central Columbus. ( I posted the picture of my empty plate because I forgot to take a picture of my food before I ate it and want to convince ppl who real this review it it fake/click- bait. I really order what I said.

Mac’s is the best bar and restaurant in Short North! It is an Irish bar with what no other bar in Short North has - great food, great drinks, and great entertainment! It also has (drum roll please) the #1 burger in town! When you come here, you get great service, awesome food, great drinks, and entertainment. Let’s start at the top. It’s one of the biggest bars with spacious seating, pool table, jukebox, arcade games, front and back entrances, awesome people, and beer selection is endless. You can build your own burger!!! Which I love! It’s very reasonably priced for the quality and taste. This time around I got the burger with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños. All burgers comes standard with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. They also come with a choice of a side (omg!). The make your own burger starts at $11.95 - very reasonable for this awesome burger. The best part - it comes with fries. Other restaurants charge separately for fries (shame on them). Mac’s is located smack dab in the middle of short north, making it convenient. It’s a place that should be more crowded everyday of the week, but its sheer size makes it look less filled.

Got a pint, pretzel bites, and fish and chips. Environment is cozy with plaid wallpaper under wood molding and copper accents. TVs quietly playing sports, long bar running the length of the place, wall lined with booths. Handsome. Service quick, friendly, efficient. Pretzel bites were good, a typical profile and properly cooked. At under $20, the fish and chips is a great value. They were cooked well and had a crispy batter. Fries are great - I never had fries cut like that. They give a crispy but chewy texture. For improvements, I recommend the fish & chips come with a lemon wedge, and making a tartar sauce that has garlic and/or dill added, possibly not sweet relish. Tartar sauce was really sweet and didn't have a lot of flavor, so throwing some garlic or dill in there can add some simple character. I also always recommend places offer a spicy tartar option as they have an "improper" burger so adding more "improper" options to the menu. Other photo is the reuben which I did not eat. All in all, this is a great short north pub I recommend. I'll be back.

I'm having a hard time writing this review. I have been going to Mac's for over ten years. I am the only one in my group of friends that ever wants to go there, so that is already a fight to get people there. But to have what happened last night happen, when did it become okay to treat customers this way? First of all when we arrived I asked if they still had a certain beer, the server had no idea, looked at the beer list and told me no. So when I looked at the beer list to figure out what I wanted, both beers I was told they no longer carry were right there on the menu. Not knowing all your beers I can understand, I probably couldn't do it. When our 3 guest arrived, he was completely ignored, completely. In fact I'm wondering if it was because he was black. No water, no offer of beer, and when it came time to order, the server actually tried to walk away before taking his order. Talk about being marginalized. After we ordered we started playing dominoes, our plan was since it was a slow night at the restaurant, and we all have different tastes in beer, just to hang out and drink and play. The server stopped by and let us know that the food would be out soon in a very rude manner, basically saying to clean up the game. When the food came, 2 orders came, both wrong, and my black friend had to wait on his. My order was a club sandwich with chips, the chips did not come until I asked for them. The second order was for wings with 2 sauces on the side, however when the wings came they were dipped in one sauce and the second sauce was on the side. When asked to correct the wings the server became aggressive and told us what we ordered, that they were right, and it would take a while for new wings done the way we ordered. The third order was chicken tenders. At this point the other people in my party wanted to leave without paying, I convinced them to stay and eat as we were all hungry and I had a coupon. When it came time for checks, I was in the restroom, and the server was told I had a coupon, he then said he would have to see it, again being extremely rude. I showed him the coupon, and he took it off, but said because of the nature of the coupon he would not take more than 1 type of payment. At this point, I was so angry that I left. Now being a server, I feel that I give alot of lead way when it comes to dining out. I realize that certain things, such as my chips, can get overlooked. I understand that orders can come out wrong or be misunderstood, in the case of the wings, but can be fixed promptly and without argument. It has come to the point where I will not be back to Mac's, and will cut my losses on the coupons I bought. I wish this hadn't of happened, I really do enjoy the atmosphere and the club sandwich, just not enough to put myself in that type of uncomfortable situation again. By the way the server said his...

The service was fantastic, and I was very pleased that they offered cellar-temp beer. That's about it.

Upon entering, the place has a nice pub feel, but it was very musty and smelled like a wet basement.

I've had scotch eggs before so we tried theirs as an appetizer. Was pretty good, a bit oily, but it comes with a sage sauce that was very good.

I got a cellar-temp Guinness. I'm a big Guinness drinker. Their Guinness tasted like rotten eggs. Had a very distinct sulfur smell. Also, it was delivered to my table about 45 seconds after ordering it. Fasted Guinness pour I've ever seen!

I was in a pub, so I ordered the fish and chips. My wife ordered a chicken philly sub. You get an enormous salad with your entree. They must have been sitting since morning or the day before. The lettuce was wilted, the tomatoes were shriveled, and my wife's salad dressing had separated. At one point she spit part of here salad out, I ate less than half of mine.

We got our food. Huge portions. No problem with the price. Fish and chips were awful. The fish was very oily, way over cooked, and was very tough and chewy. Disgusting. Fries were okay, and you get a mountain of them. The tartar sauce and slaw that were served with the entree were kinda sour tasting. More than should be normal.

My wife's sub was excellent on the inside. Very tasty, (I had a bite since I didn't eat much of my fish). The bread seemed a little on the stale side to be honest, but overall the sub was good.

With so many choices in the short north, this place will be forgotten and dropped from the list of possibilities. The staff was pleasant, the service was exceptional, the food was mostly miserable. I don't know if their refrigeration was having problems or what, but everything tasted old or spoiled. If you do go, don't get the fish and chips. Even the guy at the table next to...

Food was fine, acceptable for a bar- no complaints or high praise. Decent burger, tots, salad, etc.

Our server was clearly brand new and had obviously no training. He did not know enough to answer basicmenu questions (how many wings come on the wing platter, etc), had trouble remembering orders (even after writing them down). He did not know what a bloody Mary was and had trouble with other drink orders. It was obvious that he was trying hard to please, but had no training and obviously no help. When we ordered 2 bloody maries, he asked what that was. We told him and then assured him the bartender would probably know. He brought us 2 shots of bourbon instead. We said we ordered bloody maries, not shots, so he comped the shots. The bloody maries were on our bill anyway and when we told him this, he got the bartender to come over. She asked what we didn't like about our bloody maries. We said we didn't get them. She was confused. They removed only 1 bloody Mary from our bill after an apparently confusing discussion. We threw up our hands, paid, and left after 2.5 hours of a disappointing experience.

From this, I can't help but think the management of this bar are asleep at the wheel. Poor training, poor communication amongst the staff is a bad sign, but is relatively easy to fix, even amongst inexperienced staff. It was clear the staff was trying and I can't fault them too much, but I would not recommend this place to anyone- there are plenty of bars close by with better food and service that are worth your...
