I ate a wonderful lunch yesterday 1-22-2022] at Pierogi Mountain at 105 N. Grant Ave.. I had recently been at an extremely-crowded Columbus Museum of Art [several blocks away]; I had decided to eat at Pierogi Mountain [rather than at the museum] before returning home.
When I had first learned about Pierogi Mountain and had placed that restaurant on my long list of "restaurants to try in Columbus," there had been three locations of Pierogi Mountain in Columbus. The two other locations [one location north of the OSU campus and one location near German Village] have closed since when I had first added those locations to my list.
I have not eaten pierogies in many years so it had been great fun to have so many different flavors to choose from. I chose four flavors [forgetting how small pierogies can be]; I now realize that easily could have easily eaten eight pierogies rather than four.
Pierogies at Pierogi Mountain are usually $2.00 each but are only $1.50 each on Tuesdays.
When first arriving at the front door of Pierogi Mountain, one hour after their announced opening time, a plastic sign in their front window had said that they were “closed”; however, people had been entering and leaving via that door so I decided to enter and sit down.
My server told me that I could scan a "QR code" [on display at my table] with my smartphone in order to view their menu. Moments later, she offered me a paper menu when she had realized that I had been unable to read the extremely small image of their menu as displayed on my smartphone.
The Pierogi Mountain website had also been rather difficult for me to navigate because there are no “menu choices” at the top of the page [where one would expect to find them]. I have since learned that, in order to view the Pierogi Mountain menu on their website, one must click on the "Order Now" option [a blue rectangle in the center column] and then choose the desired section of the menu.
Though the word "pierogi" is one of the two words in the name of Pierogi Mountain, they also serve many food items that are not pierogis.
Many of the "non-pierogi" items that appear on the Pierogi Mountain menu appear to be quite delicious; I am certain that I will return to Pierogi Mountain when I am next in that...
Read moreGrowing up east of Cleveland and having a mix of Finnish, Hungarian, and Slovenian heritage I was excited to find this restaurant described as "Eastern European via northeast Ohio". I first tried to patronize the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, but every sit was filled (good sign) and I opted to try another day. Sunday afternoon the place was about half full when I received my to-go order with a wait time of just over 20 minutes. Seems like they do a pretty steady take out business which tracks given the limited seating.
I ordered the chicken paprikash, haluski, and potato cheddar pierogis. The chicken paprikash was excellent. Strong on flavor and hearty chunks. The haluski was decent but not nearly on the same level. Very noodle-heavy and I would have liked a better representation of the cabbage. Pierogis are for the family members who are yet to try, so no comments there.
While prices initially appeared reasonable, I really questioned the value after recognizing the portion size. I've included a couple photos. These are 16oz carryout containers somewhere between half to three-quarters full, and both portions fit with room to spare on a 10-inch plate. I would just go into it with the approach that you'll need to order more than a single main dish if you are expecting a full (large) meal. And maybe this allows you to try a variety of items. The combo of one paprikash and one haluski was a good size, and the combined price still not bad. I did not notice portion sizes for diners in the restaurant. Just a carryout thing perhaps? Next time, just fill the containers, Lol.
I was somewhere between 3-4 stars overall, but will give them the benefit and call it four. Glad it exists here in Cbus, and close to the convention center...
Read moreFeel like posting tonight Ben and pierogi Mountain quite a few times since I live in a townhouse nearby this week for dinner I did not have my normal experience with service I'll stop right there and say the food quality is always Excellent except I wish they would put or offer Beef in their Mushroom Stroganoff!! ( or pork or chicken please😅) because I love going there for dinner with appetizers of pierogies, than a meal, and a few more pierogies for desserts😋 because they are that good and the variety is.... exceptional. Now moving on to the service which was really unfortunate this last week when I had my first really strange occurrence of a very poor waiter-ism. Two gentlemen servers one very friendly and helpful the other, that waited on me, was totally opposite😔 dull unfriendly untalkative. no dude, I'm sitting at a blank table for dinner at dinner time I don't need anything not a menu not a beer not a glass of water - come on man! I believe he was what the lgbtqtv people call - a different type of person and maybe because I was wearing my Harley gear the other gentleman should have waited on me. But I and other guests at other tables we're getting along very well though my service wasn't. And that was the first time in all the times I've been it was like that! I said I felt like putting a post up because I really like this place! and I dine Often. And I will be Back again because overall it is an exceptional and phenomenal local, with homemade cooking in a very comfortable nook establishment here in C-bus Egészségére ! to owner, cook, mangr!
