Stopped in tonight for the first time for me. My friends I was with had been there many times. Good selection of beer and really good cocktails. We ordered some food and settled in with our drinks. After about a half an hour we checked with the bartender and asked about our food. The bartender told us they'd had an influx of Uber Eats and Doordash orders and our food would take another hour. We told them we were surprised at the wait (there were us and 14 other people in the entire bar) but were hungry and would wait. It was a friendly exchange. The bartender thanked us for our patience. An extra cocktail and some good conversation would take up the extra time, so we were fine. After about ten minutes, a woman named Debbie who said she's the manager came up to our table and angrily told us that her staff told her we were 'extremely upset and my staff wouldn't lie to me" and wanted to know why we couldn't be patient. Confused, we explained to Debbie that we'd just asked about our order. She snapped back, "my staff wouldn't lie to me" and was very angry, over the top angry. It was extremely uncomfortable. We again, in an overtly friendly way to squash the awkwardness, explained we'd only asked for an estimate about how much longer our food would take. It felt odd to be attacked with this kind of anger. Debbie snapped again and told us that her staff would never lie to her. Seriously, when did anyone mention lying. It was so weird and awkward. In the hopes of deescalating the issue and getting out of the awkward moment this manager had caused, we again agreed that we were okay with waiting for our food. Debbie wasn't hearing us and very angrily repeated that her staff wouldn't lie. Damn, no one said they did. So friggin uncomfortable. Has this woman ever heard of...
Read moreI have been given recommendations that I should visit here, for quite awhile. I tried over Pride weekend, but it was too crowded and there was a line to enter. But, I knew this weekend would be different. I was at the convention center for an event, and decided to head to Slammers for a late lunch. The weather was decent and it was a nice 10-15 minute walk from the Hyatt Regency end of the convention center.
It looks like an old neighborhood bar, with decent sized interior and exterior spaces. I ordered my usual well gin and tonic, and studied the menu. Good selection of appetizers and sandwiches. But I got intrigued by one of their specialty pizzas, The Bobbi. The usual sauce and cheese, but the other toppings were bacon, pineapple and sliced jalapenos. I am an adventurous diner, and looking for different tastes, and the sweet heat of this pizza really thrilled me.
Drink price seemed on the high end, but I was served "tall" drinks, and I felt like I was drinking doubles, afterwards. So no complaint there, just you may have to pay more attention to how many drinks you are actually...
Read moreWhen I looked at reviews of this place I couldn’t figure out why so many people said the pizza was awesome but left a 1 star review. After going here, I can explain.
We came here before a concert at the Athenaeum around the corner. We arrived an hour before the concert and thought that pizza couldn’t possibly take more than 45 minutes and that we would have plenty of time to eat and get to the concert on time. You can probably guess by now that didn’t happen.
It took almost 1:15 to get a single pizza and we ended up completely missing the first band at the concert (which we had driven 4 hours to see). It’s inconceivable how it could take over an hour to make one pizza. While we were waiting zero employees even looked at us, much less asked us if we needed anything or noticed that we had been sitting there with no food for a LONG time.
The pizza was very good, but don’t order food here if you aren’t planning to hang out for a...
