El Faro Méxican Foods — Restaurant in Concord

Much better options in the area, hard pass here.

A few problems with this place - nowhere to eat, high prices, debit card tax, and poor food quality. Need I say more? I will.

Nowhere to eat - When I visited last week they had the dining area closed. Disappointment, but I ordered anyway. Figured I'd eat outside. No such luck. Plenty of great areas outdoors for a few tables but nothing. Sat on a dirty uncomfortable planter edge and ate.

High prices - Why are prices here 20% higher than comparable Bay Area Mexican food? ~$10 for a super burrito?

Debit card tax - Wow, they add a surcharge of 3.5% for a debit card, so let's make that 23.5% higher than comparable Bay Area Mexican food! So the price posted on the menu is not accurate. This is actually a violation of their merchant agreement and should be reported to Visa or MC. Credit cards are okay for a surcharge but not debit cards.

Poor food quality - I ordered a carnitas super burrito, and unfortunately only the price was super (expensive). Just tasted like watery beans. How do you make pork flavorless? They also forgot sour cream. My spouse got carnitas super nachos and those were not so super. Thanks for the total of three jalapeños by the way, sadly we dropped one on the ground while trying to balance on the planters outside eating.

Boy does this place have staying power I remember this place since before I lived here which was 48 years ago. It was awesome Mexican food back in the 70s and it has not changed one bit so beautiful arranged restaurant but mainly and most importantly the food is OMG I would think this is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant ever and has been here well over 40 some years. The food tastes like it did back then and it was awesome and it's awesome now. I can't say enough there are not enough words LOL I just really love this place it's clean it's courteous people are nice. I grew up in the mission and was fortunate to know the original owners of El Faro , I have had their food for decades always top notch ! However just a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine was in Concord Ca , told me he knew how much I love El Faro burritos & would pick me up 4 Super Burritos , When he arrived at my home which is in Nevada ,I was very disappointed , The beans looked from a can smashed up not whole , no flavor at all , the chicken was very small portion the rice was terrible and most of all I wanted extra Jalapenos like always order at El Faro in the mission . TO THE NEW OWNERS SOMEONE GET OVER TO CONCORD ASAP BECAUSE THEY ARE RUINING THE 50 PLUS YEARS OF A GREAT...
