Save your money and your patience — skip the Beach + Taco Shack at Hotel Del Coronado. We went for lunch on July 4th and it was an absolute joke from start to finish.
We waited in line for about 10 minutes and placed an order for four tacos (Achiote Shrimp, Fish, Pork Al Pastor, and Portobello Fajita) and one bottle of water. We were told it would be a 10-minute wait — totally reasonable. But after 30 minutes of standing around, watching dozens of people who ordered after us get their food, I went up to check. The response? “It’ll be another 20 minutes.” For tacos.
I asked to speak to a manager, and someone named Martha came over. I explained the situation, and instead of taking ownership or even showing a hint of concern, she gave me a list of excuses about how “busy” they were — but couldn’t explain why we, among everyone, were being skipped. She offered chips and salsa and water to make up for it, but that wasn’t the point. I told her this was absurd, and if they couldn’t handle basic taco orders, I wanted to speak to the Food & Beverage Director. Funny enough, he was “unavailable,” but miraculously, our food appeared 10 minutes later.
All in all, we waited 40 minutes for four tacos and a water that cost $65 — and they were awful. The pork was burnt, the shrimp was rubbery, the fish was bland, and the only halfway decent thing was the portobello taco (and even that wasn’t worth the price).
I called again on Monday, July 7th and left a message for their Food & Beverage Director. No response. No apology. No accountability. Not even a courtesy call back.
The fact that this place is part of a high-end resort makes it even more pathetic. Do yourself a favor: skip the overpriced mess and bring your own tacos from anywhere else. You’ll spend less, wait less, and actually...
Read more3.5 stars for the tacos. 0.5 stars for the friendly staff. So as much I as loved the vibe of the Sun Deck, if you're looking for the shack experience, look no further than the Beach Shack. They have tables up front, some high, some low, others picnic tables with mismatched chairs and umbrellas. Music plays all around you and you can see people chilling, playing, getting ready to get into the water, all right in front of you. If you ever wanted the relaxed beach vibe, this is it!!
We chose the beef, fish and shrimp tacos and the chips and salsa. Out of the tacos- I liked the fish, shrimp, beef in descending order. I really liked all of them. They're not anywhere close to what you'd get at Taco Stand or Salud, but you also won't get the vibes at those places. I lived the salsa as it was gauc based. The chips were decent. For the two of us, all of this food was quite filling. A well-spent early afternoon by the beach.
FYI: you can use the Del dining...
Read moreAbsolutely horrendous experience. I ordered 2 tacos- one carne asada and one Al pastor - each with no onions or chiles. Both tacos came with onions and chiles and sauce (even though they said up front no sauce came on the tacos). I politely asked them to fix my order and they came back with 2 rock hard tortilla shells with only meat inside. When I asked them why they were completely plain they just told me all the salsa has onions, which I understood and asked them for plain tomatoes and cheese. They told me they would have to charge me for that (after they completely screwed up my order) and said they would have to get their manager to come to the store and approve that. Needless to say I left and I I’ll never be back. 20 minutes and $26 completely wasted. Awful food and even...
