Boca Pizzeria — Restaurant in Corte Madera

Alvaro the bartender was terrible. I felt like he discriminated against me. I CLEARLY ordered a pizza, and 20 mins later he came back and acted like I never ordered it. I personally feel as though my business wasn’t welcome, and sadly I believe it was because of my race (African American). You guys may ACT like I’m crying wolf but I KNOW when someone is acting “different” towards me. It’s VERY disheartening because he was a fellow minority (Hispanic). Sadly to say the Hispanics in California are VERY prejudiced (in my experience). It’s like they try and be racist to Afro Americans as if it’s gonna get them a more favorable position with their Caucasian counterparts. I’m in no way blaming Caucasian people; however, there seems to be a severe “crab in the bucket mentality” when it comes to minorities in the Bay Area. I’m sorry I have to call this out, but I will NEVER bite my tongue when I encounter prejudice. I hope everyone reading this have a wonderful day and remember the “GOLDEN RULE!”

Dear Boca ownership, I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my review. It was NEVER my intention to bring bad attention to your establishment; however, what I wrote was the honest truth from “MY” point of view. I understand that as the owner it’s your responsibility to defend your establishment, as well as your staff. At the same time to dismiss my review as me “crying wolf” simply because you don’t like/agree with what I said is dismissive. I looked directly in the bartenders eyes and ordered a pizza, with special toppings, and he clearly heard me because he asked was there anything else I wanted to add to the order, and I said no. There was NEVER any questions about ranch, so I don’t know where that came from. Furthermore, you wasn’t there, and to think your employee is just going to say “yes I gave poor service” is telling within itself. I think your establishment is nice and it seemed welcoming, which is why I decided to visit on my lunch break. Maybe it was a misunderstanding, but I felt strongly enough to share MY opinion of the situation, and you responded to my review and acted as if what I said was an impossibility SIMPLY because the bartender was a minority himself. I figured driving past the place that it would be pretty good. They have a really nice outside dinning area and it just looks classy. I walk in and still am thinking that its gonna be really good. It looks nice i sit at the bar i get a beer and order my pizza. Fast farward 45 minutes i get my pizza and go to the trailer. I open up the box and couldnt be more disgusted. I ordered a peperonni pizza (pretty hard to mess up right? Wrong). There are 12 pieces of pepperoni on a large pizza and what appears to be dog vommit. I have no idea what this other stuff is but it doesnt look good (or smell good). Then i get to really looking at it and there is SPINACH on my pepperoni pizza. Now i like spinach, but if i wanted it on my god damned pizza i would have asked for it. Now i can deal with all this but what is outrageouse is the fact that my large pizza is actually only about 8 inches in diameter. Same with the bread sticks ( which is actually just pizza crust with nothing on it) i swear i said large not mini. Anyhow. If i could get away with not giving this place one star i would. I would actually like to take some stars away from them but google wont let me. Im gonna throw this in the trash and i guess...

Pros: Outside eating area with a fire pit that is beautiful.

Cons: Service was very mediocre. The wait staff had no sense of customer service (moreso like a cashier at a fast food establishment that really didn't care if you enjoyed your meal or not.) No questions were asked about our seating preferences or needs. The food was either hit or miss, as the Mediterranean pizza was good going down but caused stomach aches later. Several colleagues complained of the same experience as we had dinner at the restaurant for our first experience with BOCA. The second time that we ordered, the food was a takeout order and no utensils or napkins were provided. The salad was very tasty and fresh, but the chicken sandwich was burnt and dry.

Overall I would try another restaurant if given a choice between two establishments with BOCA being one of the two before returning to this...
