My initial trip to Nordstrom's Corte Madera was lovely. I purchased a dress and shoes for a company conference and awards dinner in Beverly Hills. The dress was wrapped in a Nordstrom garment bag and I never looked at it again until 5 minutes before I had to be downstairs in the hotel ballroom. The censor was STILL on the dress. Please keep in mind that I live in Sonoma County and I had flown down to LA for this event. I have NO idea how I got through security without the alarm going off, but that's a moot point. The only thing I had to wear to the awards dinner was this one dress, so I had to cut the censor out. Luckily, there was a lace overlay so you couldn't see the hole... Before I started cutting, I took a picture of the dress with the censor intact to show the time stamp and location.
I brought the dress back to Nordstrom's after I returned from my LA trip to receive a credit. When I got to the counter I told the saleswoman my story, showed her the dress, receipt and photo. She was BEYOND rude--she said, so you cut the censor out and you want to return it? I explained myself again and she said she had to speak to her manager. Fine. Then a second saleswoman came up to me while we were waiting for the store manager. I had to tell the whole story over again because the first woman just gave the second woman a stupefied look and said nothing. The second woman interrogated me--asked if I had purchased the dress here (location was on the receipt), where the hole was, etc. I felt criminalized and villainized. Finally, the manager comes up and asks what's going on. Neither of the first two women said anything so I repeated my story for the third (actually fourth) time. Without hesitation the manager said to go ahead and give me a credit... I can't even describe how the first two women looked at me. Maybe utter disgust? When I asked the first woman if she needed to see my credit card she said no, it looks like you purchased the dress with a gift card. I said no, as you can see on the receipt, I purchased with my credit card. She replies would you like to put the credit on a gift card? No, I would like it on my credit card. Well then I'm going to need to see your card. After that neither woman said one word and I walked away from the transaction trembling.
I wish I had written the women's names down but I was in shock. I can say it was Friday, March 2nd, around 4:30pm in the women's dress department.
I grew up going to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and LOVED shopping at Nordstom. They had the very best customer service I'd ever experienced. This was the first time I had purchased anything from the Corte Madera store and I can see why it only has 3 stars on Yelp. Horrific. Never shopping there again because of this experience.
I am not asking for a coupon or a discount--I want the store to know how their customers are being treated. Reminded me of Pretty Woman when the women told Viv her money is no good...
Read moreDisorganized, and slow service. Horrible experience trying to buy but couldn't (not even at full price,) because it was some special sale day. The sales lady should have told me I was wasting my time trying it on, but didn't. She then told me I couldn't buy it because of the specisl.promotion going on (no clear signage for this in the store), but rang it up anyway! I asked her why my receipt was so high and she realized she screwed up and had charged me an extra $100, but did not apologize ,instead immediately began processing a return despite my limited time and request for a supervisor. The supervisor made me wait 10 mins instead of calling the (later to be found out,) REAL store supervisor, and then said go ahead and take the shirt, but the sales lady had taken it out of my bag (even though I paid for it!) and hung it off to thr side without my knowlege. My things (that I wad not allowed to buy until the next day were still not on hold, I did not get an apology, I was late for my meeting, and....I returned home having paid for a shirt that wasn't in my bag, and technically I wasn't permitted to buy in the furst place. This lead to phone time to get shirt tracked down and Fedexed. What a MESS, and not at ALL, the "Nordstrom Standard of Customer Service Excellence," I tend to look forward to. This, "Look, but you can't buy unless you are someone special," is a terrible approach and does the opposite to inspire me to open an account. Bad business...
Read moreI went shopping for a purse for a gift. I knew I wanted either Tory Burch or another brand. A very kind sales person asked my name, introduced herself and began to show me bags. While we were looking at a mid sized two handled bag, another customer came over with another sales woman, who had brassy hair, and t the customer tried to pick up the bag while I was taking a photo of it. It appeared we both wanted the same bag. The other party finally walked away and the sales person advised me to hold onto the bag while she checked in the back to see if there were two. I had the bag in my hand as I browsed other bags. The sales person with the other party came over and said, "That is her bag, " indicating her customer. I was taken aback at her attitude and confrontation. She repeated, "She is Chinese. It is the one she wants. She has been looking at bags here for over an hour and a half. Give it to me." I handed over the bag and left the store in tears. I have never been treated so callously and disrespectfully in any retail environment. This person did not apologize, did not offer to see if there was another bag online or in another store, just took the bag away from me and bore it triumphantly to...
