After 21 years in the Military - all over the world and this Great Country, I have never heard of these fancy delights. A friend was in town from Texas and wanted to eat something different. We were already downtown Cincy and after searching Google and locating a few 'regular spots' that happened to be crowded, she said, how about some Empanadas? I said, "What?!" We found The Empanada's Box. The rest is history.
I told the Server I never had these before and wasn't a fan of Mexican Food. "These are more like 'Hot Pockets'' he said. I was then handed a menu, 'WOW"! Okay, I chose the Philly and Jamaica (because they were fresh out of the oven) along with a drink. We sat down to eat and I bit into the Philly. Just as I expected - with that Philly Cheesesteak flavor. Not Bad. I then tried the Jamaica one. STFD!! I thought my tongue was going to slap my brains out!! I was soooo surprised at how good these things were, wow!! Check it out, I found a new place to bring Family and Friends when they come to...
Read moreEvery aspect of this was a different party in my mouth! Each empanada had a different texture, taste and smell, wrapped inside a perfectly crisp flakey shell! I had the Jamaican empanada which was aromatic, moist with chicken thighs and flavourings! It came with a chili oil/herb dipping sauce that was divine! I also got the Miami! It had beef and other offerings with a salsa topping witch was sweet and tangy and amazing! In then had the Philly steak empanada which was pretty vanilla in the vast choices! But still equally as scrumptious as it was comforting in a mid west/ east coast type of way! The elote corn salsa was great and fresh, as was the Asian noodle salad. Slightly warm with lots of crunchy fresh vegetables inside. Every bite was amazing for a first of mine in the city I’ve always grown up in! A must try! Only thing is I took it to go and no napkins of silverware was offered even with a component as noodles that needed a fork. They...
Read moreThe food here is beyond delicious. Each type of empanada is named after a different international location, and the fillings each have distinct flavors and ingredients. Many of the fillings are meat-based, but there are multiple yummy vegetarian options and one vegan flavor (which I haven't tried). You can get the empanadas fresh or take home a box of 8 frozen. They reheat easily and taste just as good reheated as they do in the store. Every single thing I've had here is delicious, including these little dulce de leche sandwich cookies that are next to the register. And the chimichurri is SO. GOOD.
If you're curious, please give this place a try. You won't regret it. I've typically gone within an hour of closing and while they do run out flavors, there's always been a solid variety to choose from. That said, go earlier if you really have your heart set on one of the more...
