FIRST TIME going to Catch! We (party of 2) ate there on last night for a birthday celebration. Reservation was for 7:45pm and we were eventually seated @ 8:09 pm. The music was extremely loud and the music selection was trendy/upbeat instead of classical which would’ve been more appropriate for the ambiance of the restaurant. The room was smoky which was causing our eyes to tear up. Although Catch’s website asked the occasion (a Birthday Dinner) on their website when I reserved the table, NO ONE acknowledged the birthday person and when I brought it to their waitress’s attention, she said “Oh nice!” No complimentary dessert was offered to the birthday person or nothing. The food was not good at all nor filling. We ordered the “Flight Of 3” because we were under the impression that the 3 different meats were enough to feed two people. We even asked the waitress if we should get the “New York Strip” or the “Flight of 3” for our main entree and the “Flight of 3” was recommended. She knew that was our only meat choice. The “Flight of 3” are 3 extremely small pieces of beef that are LITERALLY the size of the standard size post-it note and less than a quarter inch thick. I am not exaggerating! The amount of meat that any grocery store would give out as samples as you shop. I kid you not! You can put 3 pieces of the “Flight of 3” in your mouth at once and they would equate to a normal bite portion. The “Flight of 3” is $85 for a bite size of beef. Price is no issue for us but deception is. We felt robbed! We were relying HEAVY on the waitress’s opinion of the menu because we had no knowledge on what to order (again, first time at Catch). They do not offer many side choices to select from (not even a macaroni) and they were mediocre. We’d ordered the Catch Roll, Wagyu Fried Rice, Parmesan Truffle Fries. Standard beverages are not unlimited refills (standard at most upscale restaurants) and so if you get a refill on your sweet tea, you will be charged for it (2 beverage charges). The Old Fashioned was watered down filled with lots of ice. There was a platform behind our booth (head level) that had 3 large, used, balled up napkins left there from previous patrons. The attention to details was not present. I preferred no ice in all my standard beverages and ice was in all the beverages. We were left alone for long periods of time. The service has to be seamless if you’re going to consider your establishment “upscale” with $100 min per person prices. Finally, the waitress brought us our check and she then said “Happy Birthday”. We left a 15% tip even though it wasn’t deserved (we normally tip 25%). We spent $300 without the gratuity which we were prepared to spend or more prior to coming however, that meal nor the service was not worth it at all. We left there hungry and picked up a pizza on the way home.
I have NEVER left a review on a restaurant but I said to myself as I was leaving the restaurant that I will this time. We were extremely disappointed with...
Read moreWe went here for my 36th birthday last night 1/30/24 and that was a huge mistake. Don't waste your time.
Seating: My fiancé booked us standard reservation for 7:30 for 2 people and after some wait time we were finally directed outside, not inside. Very cold and heaters barely did anything to remedy the situation. I mentioned to the hostess that we had a standard inside reservation to which she stated this was all they had. When booking you have the option of standard, high top, and patio. After being sat, a quick trip to the bathroom would reveal numerous seating options inside for 2 people. 0 stars
Service: Where to start...After about 10 minutes of being sat our waitress finally showed up. The patio was not full and there were multiple tables open in our section. We were told "cold is on the left, hot on the right, and the wagyu rock comes tableside". There was zero up sale or any energy in explaining the menu. No specials nor any suggestions. Lost $$$. I inquired on a wine list and/or bourbon/spirit list to which there was none. Our waitress did not understand bourbon to say the least and the bar response was lackluster (we have bourbon or rye). Another lost $$$. She mentioned she would take our order as a whole so we put in our order (crudo, salmon nigiri, crispy shrimp, filet, rice, and brussels) with drinks at each course and one for dessert. Almost instantaneously the crudo was at our table, which to me seems it was waiting in the pass or an extra order hanging out. After the nigiri and shrimp our waitress finally showed back up (another 10-15 minutes) with our first drinks (a beer) finally arrived. The main course came but again, no waitress. We ate and again saw no staffing outside of the ones who dropped the food. I saw a manager come to almost every table in our section besides ours. No check in from mgmt. The food became cold and started to become stale before we were asked if we wanted a box. I explained no we would like our check as there had been quite a few hiccups with our experience: mainly huge gaps in between drinks, food, and check ins. Felt welcomed? Forget it. Birthday experience? Zero. 0 Stars
Food: Overall, the food was good. This was the only redeeming quality. As the hot food was served it was warm but no steam or heat coming off. Again, I think this is a service issue not a kitchen issue. For this, 3/5 overall stars but for Dallas 1/5 stars.
To conclude, this place has some serious service issues to tend to if they want to keep a steady crowd for the pricing. No real desire to take care of the patron, explain the menu, or give you an experience for the price let alone a birthday. A quick trip to a bar down the road after dinner gave us an experience 10X this one at a fraction of the...
Read moreI debated on giving a 1 star rating due to my experiences last night but the bartender was amazing and i should have tipped her a lot more which is what i normally do when i receive great service but i didn't due to how i was treated and felt when i left the restaurant and I'm not going to rate on emotions. This was my second visit. The 1st visit was absolutely amazing. I tipped the waiter 70$ for 189$ bill. Im a vegetarian and i ordered the fried rice with no Wagyu meat or any meat of course. I didnt ask for a discount but the waiter graciously at the end said he asked to give me a discount due to me not having any meat and it didn't make since to charge me the same price. I said THANK YOUUUU very much for that. I bragged about Catch and told everyone how great of a place it was and that I will be returning soon. So I returned yesterday and ordered the fried rice with no meat via the bartender and as I was ordering she looked in disbelief so I stated that I've ordered it before (meaning with no meat) so she said ok. About 20 mins later someone comes out. He was dressed in a suit some I'm assuming he was a manager. He immediately led with I know we did this for you the last time but we're not able to give you a discount and the chef doesn't feel comfortable making it that way but you can get the meat on the side but I will still have to charge you regular price. I said he doesn't feel comfortable? I then said he doesn't feel comfortable or are you saying that you will still have to charge me regular price. He said yes he doesn't feel comfortable and I have to charge you regular price. I said first, I didn't ask for a discount and Secondly all you had to do was state it will be regular price with or without the meat. The price was never an issue for me. I don't mind paying regular price but I never asked for a discount and then he said oh ok. Please go ahead and ring it with the meat on the side. I agreed but then thought about how I was approached and I declined to order. He never asked how can he help or even assess the situation which was very disheartening to me after I thought about our conversation. I finished my drinks and left the bartender 30$ tip 20$ less than what I normally would have. So if you're reading this i apologize for taking my experience out on you and I will find you on my next visit and definitely tip you the remaining and more. Yes I said next because even though I left with unsettling feeling/experience I will be returning to see if I can't recapture the feeling I had with my first...
