Day 2 of my Volleyball weekend and I wanted something GOOD after our 12 hr day at the Convention Center. Being that there are so many good eateries in the area, I did my usual search on Yelp and ended up at Hops & Hens. Based on the reviews, Hops & Hens would provide a good meal at a good cost.
Heading out of the convention center we walked to Hops & Hens. The location is super cute and sits at the edge of the Omni Plaza Hotel center. The location has indoor and outdoor seating and has an order then sit setup. Walking in, there is ample space and picnic style tables. There are a few high tops towards the back, and the outside sitting area even has a space where you can engage in a game of cornhole. The vibe itself is a traditional American theme with a bar, a few televisions, and the self-serve condiment station. Simple. Cute. To the Point.
Looking at the menu I was excited to see a variety of chicken options. The art of creativity with chicken still exists at Hops & Hens and I was ready to partake in what was being offered. LoL!
I decided on a Side Caesar with The Texan. The Texan - $12.00 BBQ sauce, bacon, crispy onions
The Chicken Tender base of The Texan provides the perfect canvas for the BBQ sauce, bacon, and crispy onions. Though simple by design, this sandwich is the furthest from simple.
BBQ sauce - adds a tang that is sweet but not too sweet. Mild but not boring. And flavorful without being overpowering.
Bacon - was crispy and sits well between the tenders and the BBQ Sauce. As the Tenders are crispy perfection, the crispness of the bacon adds a texture variation as the natural pork texture has a rougher feel compared to that of chicken. The natural pork-ness of the bacon further enhances the flavor of the chicken as it blends uniformly with the juice of the chicken. Ummmmmm!
Crispy Onions - the secret warrior. The Crispy Onions give you a nice layer of salt, crunch, and crumble. They bring all the flavors together and marry the sandwich to be the mouthwatering, taste bud pleasing, hit of goodness that is needed.
The Texan is truly a 10 out of 10 and I am ready for another one....
Read moreMy name is Tiffany Davis, and I want to tell you about my day. I work in the medical field and work all day. I didn't even take lunch. I left work to rush to the hospital—my grandfather isnt doing well. My cousins and I decided to stop at the Omni Dallas to grab dinner. It was my suggestion. Did I mention that it is now 6pm, and im just having my first meal of the day? The lady at the Bar was really standoffish! No hospitality, nothing genuine about the whole encounter. I brushed it off and told myself hey; you had a long day; let it slide. Sitting about four chairs down, my cousin asked me if I was ok. he noticed her demeanor toward me. I told him to let it go. When she came to bring me my food, I asked for a ranch. She acts as if im not there. Doesn't acknowledge me or anything! About 20 minutes go by she brings out more food. I asked again can I please have some ranch. She looks at me, clutches her tray, rolls her eyes, and walks off as if I said nothing. By that time, I went in and asked for a manager. The guy says I have someone. as he goes to get them, it's another black lady talking to him. she goes I see you have the same problem as me. They have shown me no hospitality either. He comes back with the so-called manager, and it's the lady who is rude. So I then proceed to head across to the hotel for help. The guy from the hotel walks me back over, and my cousin tells me the manager was rude too. Said he told her that they have customers spend 300 dollars on a single table. As if her money was nothing. Not only that, when I came back, the manager was a guy. after me asking and being told its no one to talk to but her. Im not sure what entirely happened when I left. im speaking from experience. I didn't take the refund or the offer of fresh food. I wanted no parts. I am deeply hurt and embarrassed. To go somewhere and be mistreated because of your skin tone. I feel even worse because I was the one who brought my family into...
