Updated 9-20-24: visited a second time...for breakfast this time. Amazing service again and such a great neighborhood and family atmosphere. We had the chilaquiles and a dish called La Torre. Their salsa verde is definitely one of the best I've ever had...tangy like most salsas verdes but also a very rich flavor. We also sampled the Tres Leches French Toast...just the right amount of sweet without being too sweet and the fresh cream and berries topped it off perfectly.
If you're in the East Dallas area, make sure you go to Las Favela for your next meal out!
Original post from first visit in Sept 2024: I had been waiting for Las Favela to open since I met Elvira Favela a few months ago and learned her family was taking over the space. It took us a couple of weeks after they opened to make it over, and we were so happy to finally get to eat here.
First of all, the restaurant looks amazing. They renovated the entire place, and her nephew even built all the gorgeous tile-topped tables. The service was excellent! Not only was the waiter very attentive and helpful with suggestions, but Elvira and another manager both came by our table to chat and make sure everything was to our liking.
The menu is a delicious combination of Tex-Mex and traditional Mexican. We had the guacamole and queso platter to start. The queso was especially great. You can tell it is homemade with real cheese. We also loved the enchiladas verdes and enchiladas La Laguna (a sweet and spicy red mole sauce).
We can't wait to come back and try breakfast! What a great addition to the neighborhood. Recommending to...
Read moreMy son and I went there because we support local business. But it doesn't mean we always give five stars. I ordered a carne asada torta. The meat was cold and tough. My son ordered 1 gordita de barbacoa and 1 de fajita. The fajita beef was tough. The barbacoa one felt like brisket, not bbq at all. On top of that, they serve everything with a super hot sauce. No other sauces were offered ( the first time a Mex restaurant didn't offer different sauces). Prices are too high, in my opinion. In NYC, Manhattan, more specifically, near Grand Central, the best mexican tacos place, sells suculent and delicious tacos for $5 each. Here at Las Favela, 3 tacos run for about $20. Potato tacos for $18??? Come on! We don't mind paying steep prices for good tasting food, but in this case, the food didn't justify the price. Staff was courteous and attentive. The place was clean, and the atmosphere was good. We are still going to give it a try again and see if we were on a bad night at their kitchen...
Read moreBoyfriend found this place on Yelp. We had queso with chorizo and chorizo stuffed bacon wrapped jalapeños. Appetizers were yummy. He had the asada street tacos; tortillas were handmade but he did say the meat was under seasoned. I had the milanesa de pollo w/spaghetti verde; everything was good here. I got to go orders; hamburger & grilled chicken breast. My kids are a little picky, my daughter said the chicken was a little rubbery and my son’s burger was closer on the rare side; I should have asked for well done.
Service was ok, our server could have done a little better. Seems like the owner picked up his slack with bringing extra chips, refilling drinks, etc.
Atmosphere was cute, I like the tables and decor. The place was well air conditioned and clean. I would come back to try...
