We went to Thunderbird Pies today for lunch (Saturday) and it was fantastic! We like Cane Rossa and Zoli's and since it is the same owner, we though we would give it a try. I wanted to go someplace casual where I could wear tights, and no makeup. This fit the bill. You order at the counter and they bring your order to the table. Plus, only 5 minutes from our house.
We got "The Artichokes" for an App and "The Drip Pan Pizza" for a main. The artichokes were so yummy. Crispy little pieces of artichokes w/ a parmesan batter and an underlying taste of lemon. It came with an aioli that was delish. Tart, a tiny bit of spice and mayo based. Wish I could figure out that recipe because I would use it from now on as a dip for any number of things.
The pizza was SO GOOD. We are demanding eaters, and sometimes walk away from a restaurant thinking "meh". But, this pizza hit on every level. Firstly, it was a bargain! It is a thick pizza with loads of wonderful toppings. I could only eat half a piece. The sauce was so yummy. It really tasted like fresh tomatoes, not an overly cooked sauce. The toppings were amazing. Mushroom, sausage, soppressata, caramelized onion and roasted peppers. All were the best version of that ingredient they could be! The crust was the perfect "Detroit" style crust, buttery, thick and with those delectable crispy edges. Came out piping hot, and only took maybe 15 minutes.
We only could manage 2 total pieces, so we are looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow. We will def be back because we want to try all the other menu offerings.
The interior is simple, comfortable and ladies, throw a baseball cap on and you won't feel out of place w/ no makeup. Thank you Thunderbird for a...
Read moreI ate there for the first time on 12/15 with coworkers, order a small pizza and it was pretty good, so I decided to order a 2nd pizza a large to go to share with someone at home. It was sealed when I received it and something told me to check it, but I didn’t. Got all the way home (which I stay across town) opened it and it was wrong. I usually wouldn’t make this a big deal, but I can’t /don’t eat pork and the entire pizza was cover with pepperoni when it was only supposed to be half for the other person I was sharing the pizza with. I also went over this order 3 times with the guy who took my order. I called them and they insisted on giving me a refund because it was too far to drive back plus raining. The phone was passed to a manager who explained she had to get someone to unlock the system to do the refund, took my info and said they would email me a receipt. 5 days go by no call no email so I called again, explained the situation to another manager who said she briefly remembered being told the situation. She took my info again and said she would look into it and call me back. I received no call, so then called for the 3rd time the very next day, spoke to yet another person I had to explain to again. He said he would get with the 2nd manager I spoke with and call me back. He did call back to tell me they were refunding the money and I should receive something shortly. As of today I still have not gotten anything. Why even indicate you’ll refund but then give me the run around if you had no intentions on refunding anything? I actually did like the place and had plans to become a returning customer, but after this I had a change of...
Read morePizza was great. If you're a fan of Detroit style or thin crust pizza, I would highly recommend you try Thunderbirds. We had the cheesey garlic bread sticks. They were delicious with the Detroit style dough, airy and light, and somehow a little doughy in areas. The dipping sauce was on the watery side, still good, but if you like the more pasty sauce, then you may not be a fan. We had the thin cheese pizza, which was crisp on the sides with the cheese throughly browned on the edges. I have to say the cheese was the star of the dinner even though im more of a pepperoni guy. We also had a half pepperoni and half pepperoni w/ sausage. The pepperoni is cup style, and the sausage was more ground sausage but in little clusters. They also spread long cut fresh basil over the pizza, which is a nice touch, but I felt it was a bit too much. I had to peel some off, so it didn't seem like a topping in itself. They do not have name brand soda in the fountains, and that disappointed the wife since she is a Dr. Pepper diehard. The "Dr. Hopper" didn't taste as good as the "real stuff. " The root beer was good, and the orange soda was great as well. I'm not as picky, though. 😅 For desserts, they have soft serve ice cream with all the core toppings. The atmosphere was great they had the Detroit style graffiti all around, with big TV's hung in good view locations and a few arcade games near the entrance. The A/C was set low, which I like, but the ladies were cold. So if you like it cool, you'll love it like I did, but if you don't, then they do have outside seating, or I would definitely bring a...
