Came here in the early evening because I craved some pho. The service was really friendly and fast: I ate two bowls in a row here and they came out quickly.
Pricing/value would be decent for the pho, and not as great for specialty coffee. While I normally would consider $7.50 pho bowls a great deal, they don't put much beef in the bowls. I'd probably estimate about 4-5 oz. (cooked) of beef total in the combo bowl. That's about the size of 1.5 decks of playing cards, which given the affordability of beef balls, isn't much, but isn't too skimpy either. The Vietnamese coffee was a few bucks, but you only get about 6-7 oz. of the stuff in a premade cup. I went one star down on the rating because of the pricing/value, due to the small portions of the bowls and the very small amount of Vietnamese coffee given. But I'm sure some people would appreciate non-enormous bowls at lower price points!
Quality was very good. For the pho broth, I'd say that the flavor was really clean, fairly savory, and not too salty. If it had a bit more "kick" and fragrance then I'd say it was on the list of my top bowls, and I say this having lived in the Bay Area for some time in the past eating lots of pho. The standard pho bowls are stocked with tasty and fresh vegetables, but they don't make the mistake of dumping fist-fulls of bean sprouts in- just tasteful amounts of cilantro, etc. My friend got the sweet and sour seasoning added for about $0.50 and he felt that it negatively impacted the flavor, but others seem to enjoy the spicier curry add-in.
Overall, a solid choice. I'd probably go with a friend and get 3 bowls between the 2 of us. Just gotta work on the value a bit, and putting out fresh Vietnamese...
Read moreSoo, I eat pho a lot. We make it at home and I always like to try it everywhere to appreciate the differences in the herbs and spices. Now I gotta say, this is the worst pho I have ever ate coming from the asian community. For around $16, it's a disgrace in quality. The broth was quite bland but the Hoisin sauce on the table is what makes up for the lack of it. I also still remember the super pungent smell of like sewage, as one could describe it while first walking into the restaurant. I didn't even go on a busy time, it was around 11 on an early weekday so can't imagine they were having some issues with large capacities of people going in as one of the variables in the matter. This isn't the worst part. The number one reason I gave this a 1 star is because of the mere fact that the meat was going rancid and specifically the rare beef. I had ordered the brisket and rare beef and I am not a picky eater as I typically eat everything but this was one of the first times that I could not finish the bowl because of the thought of the nauseating meat. The brisket was also the most interesting experience I've ever had from any noodle place. It was like I could chew on it forever and was very tough. It gave a really off texture and taste that you wouldn't typically expect from a brisket, so much that it left me gagging that as well. I'm pleasantly surprised that I didn't get sick after eating from here. A tip for the owners. Definitely needs a food safety protocol and you should probably work on your soup some more. I can't judge the other dishes since that was my first time going...
Read moreWe ordered from this place via door dash because the reviews were good. Well this fell drastically short of expectation. The Orange chicken was nothing like the picture. It was more like popcorn chicken with a bit of orange sauce and a few pieces of onion and a blob of rice. Not much sauce, dry and the whole presentation was unappetizing. Next was the shaken beef. I gave this review a 2 star instead of 1 star because the shaken beef was half was decent. The meat was a bit too charred and you could taste the char but the meat was fairly tender and the peppers and onions were good. The sauce was salty and unevenly distributed throughout the dish, but overall it was ok. The pho bowl was the combination with 3 types of beef: meatball, brisket, and rare roast beef. The broth was mediocre and the brisket was dry like it had been sitting for a while. The rare beef was good. The mint leaves that were included had bad black mushy spots on them (like when your lettuce starts to wilt and go bad) so it was not usable. Lastly, I am a big fan of steamed dumplings and I make them at home quite often. They were very bland and boring to say the least. Overall the prices are low but the food lacks quality, flavor and presentation. I will not...
