My wife and I were long time frequenters of Maguire's when they were on Dallas Parkway. We were saddened last year when we discovered that they were leaving their location for many years and moving to a smaller location on Preston Road. After they opened, we gave them a couple of weeks and then decided to go there for dinner. The food was good as always, and it was especially good to see a lot of the familiar wait staff from the old location. When the bill arrived, remember now, this IS a Maguires restaurant, with Mark himself walking around. I got the check and put out a gift card that we had received as a gift. The waiter took the check and the gift card, and came back and said that the gift card was not good; it was only good at the OTHER location. I went ahead and put out my credit card and after a few minutes, Mark Maguire himself comes by our table wanting to know how everything was. I asked again about the gift card, and he told me "that was with the old system, and was no good there." He then told me that they sent out an email prior to closing telling everyone who had a gift card, that they needed to use their gift cards or they would not be any good. We never received such an email, and was very, very disappointed that he would not honor a good gift card. Over the years, we have spent thousands of dollars in his establishment even having a birthday party and dinner there for 50 people. I would have thought that Public Relations 101 would have been applied by the owner in this situation, but I guess he did not take that course. It is simply amazing to me that someone would risk losing a customer over $50.00, but believe it or not they will. Dallas is a very competitive restaurant city and in order to stay in business and make a go of it, you better pay attention to your customers and not neglect good business that you had. We won't be...
Read moreThis was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. I won’t go into great detail as there wasn’t just one negative aspect. The food was under and over cooked depending on the item received. I have never sent a dirty martini back for being so bad I can’t drink it but I did hear. My friend ordered the lychee love bomb was disturbing. I was in Dallas from out of town and was looking Forward to trying a new restaurant. I can’t express how bad this experience was right down to trying to split the bill four ways. The Staff had zero training for their overpriced food and drinks. We would ask him questions and he would talk to us like we were his high school buddies, but we were there spending a lot of money and expected input when we asked About menu items. When my friend ordered a rosé, he asked her which one there was only one. She stated there was only one he said no there’s two the other item he was stating was a rosé was a Prosecco. His response was my bad. Sounds like you know your booze. This negative review could go on and on I can’t even decide what direction to go in on the many terrible experiences throughout this two hour dinner. Also, the female manager was absolutely clueless that the restaurant was literally unfolding with terrible service. We estimated this restaurant will absolutely not last with that being said, I hope anyone that goes here is prepared for a little food poisoning and bad service. It’s...
Read moreWe explored this location for restaurant week and were disappointed. The appetizers were good, fine. The fried calamari had a weird BBQ dip, which wouldn't have been our first choice. or second. But all in all was fine. Then we had to wait an hour before our entrees were ready. At a random Sunday afternoon. During restaurant week. There was also only one waiter in like half the restaurant. She tried hard though.
But then we got to the food. And my wife was pretty disappointed with the salmon. It was like a simple teriyaki glaze over it. You would think that an establishment like this would have something more sophisticated. But it felt like they just used a cake mix instead of preparing a good cake. (Metaphor). She, while hungry, barely ate half of her meal. My lasagna was even worse. No seasoning? No spice? It was pretty bland.
One can imagine that usual clientele of this location are happy with the menu. They certainly got plenty of attention and dressed like they're well to do. But as someone that ... how do I say... likes spicy food, the boring flavors presented were not appealing. So yeah, if you look like you've been in the sun, then your palate will want for something that this location...
