I've been wanting to visit this spot for years, but I don't visit downtown Dallas enough to stop by. My manager recently reminded me of this place, and I was downtown for an anime convention, so it was perfect timing. The restaurant is a little outdated and dirty, but that's how you know the food is going to be FIRE.
The menu was simple and easy to understand. You have your typical street tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and drinks. Luckily, we came right before the dinner rush because after we sat down, the restaurant was PACKED and the line went from one end to the other.
The tables were pretty dirty. I'm not sure if the workers wipe them down after someone sits there, but I grabbed some paper towels and wiped them before sitting. My boyfriend and I ordered 10 tacos, each with different meats so we can try them out. I also got a horchata fresca as well, and it was one of the best horchata that I tried. Idk what they did, but the drink was light, and there wasn't too much of that grainy part inside. It took about 10 mins for the tacos to come out, and HOLY SH*T, the tacos were ALL SO FREAKIN' GOOD!!! I loved my typical lingua and tripe tacos, but the highlight was the suadero tacos. I think that's a thin slice of beef, but it was juicy and authentic and they have the perfect amount of onion and cilantro.
I regret not buying more of the suadero tacos, and the line was too long for me to get some to-go. I took off one star because of the cleanliness. I usually don't mind but the tables were really dirty and there were flies flying around. I'll definitely grab like 6+ tacos next time for myself because I've been thinking about their juicy tacos for days...
Read moreI used to work in the area and stop in for tacos regularly, but I moved away earlier this year and have been missing the tacos here like nobody’s business. My errands took me this way this evening, and I was SO excited to go to my old favorite taco place.
I ordered ten tacos and since I hadn’t eaten all day, I thought it would be a good idea to open the smaller box and have a couple tacos before I drove the hour and a half home. I was wrong. Evidently, it wasn’t allowed.
The woman working behind the counter came around and seemed to want the salsa in my hand as she raised her voice and pointed to a sign written in Spanish. I tried to explain that I didn’t know what the sign said while attempting to hand her the bottle of salsa. She continued to yell at me, and at this point others who were taking notice. She treated me like I was a thief. (Thank you to the kind lady who was ordering and tried to explain to the cashier that I was just trying to have a couple tacos before driving home)
Needless to say, I was extremely embarrassed and ashamed. If I wanted to be yelled at like a kid and shamed during dinner, I would have had dinner at my parents’ house lol. It has been a long time since a stranger has made me cry and has made me feel so unsafe and “othered.”
All in all, 2 stars because they still have the best damn...
Read moreThis place is legit. If you’re looking for some killer tacos in East Dallas, La Banqueta delivers. The outside doesn’t look like much, but once you walk in, the people are super friendly and the tacos speak for themselves.
I went with six tacos: two suadero, two al pastor, and two cabeza (barbacoa). The suadero was probably my favorite. Super tender, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Easily a top choice.
The al pastor was actually my least favorite of the bunch, but to be clear, it was still really good—juicy, seasoned well, and better than what you get at most spots. Just had tough competition from the others.
The cabeza tacos were awesome. Juicy, rich, and super flavorful. Definitely worth getting. Everything came loaded with chopped onion and a ton of fresh cilantro, just the way it should be.
Now let’s talk about the salsas. The green salsa verde might be the best I’ve had in Dallas. Creamy, tangy, and spicy in all the right ways. I’d give it a slow clap any day. The red salsa brings a smoky heat that’s bold but not overpowering. Both are excellent.
Bottom line: this place is a winner. Great tacos, welcoming people, and unbeatable salsas. Put it on your list if you...
