The oldest restaurant in Denver a place well worth the price even if it did stress me the hell out while I was there. The game meats are delicious, And even if you're having a difficult time finishing it, they reheat to perfection. After all it is cowboy food. The atmosphere is exquisite somewhere between a chaotic lived in museum, And a cozy cottage. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this is one of the first places to develop the trademark Colorado airlock to deal with strong winds and to keep the place insulate. Though this is mostly due to the fact that the entryway is the most inconvenient part of your visit. I'll always recommend ordering specials from places like this as they tend to be around mid-range price but high quality. I can actually recommend this place To others like myself as it is very quiet typically, full of interesting things so look at while do you enjoy your delicious food, And the servers are incredibly respectful and polite. Getting in and moving around can be a little tight due to the small quarters of the establishment. However, that's not a huge issue. Once you're seated and I'm sure if you mention any problems with personal space, they can accommodate you. Be sure to ask them about any oddities and curios you have a particular interest in getting photos with or seeing. My personal favorite is the real fake unicorn skull, And the number of jackalopes that they have stuffed. Though that is also another thing to consider. If you're someone who prefers to separate your meal from its origin, this may not be the place for you. As there are many mounted deer heads and other animals around which add to the wonderful aesthetic. But I am perfectly capable of sympathizing with you. If you don't like looking into the eyes of the creature you're eating. If it helps, most of the things on the wall are antiques and died long before your meal was prepared. Also, if you're a firearms enthusiast with love for things that are mechanical and old, you'll also like the number of old western coach guns and rifles hung up on the wall. Overall, this is one of the few places in Denver that still holds to our traditions, And reflects our...
Read moreWe went to the Buckhorn Exchange for a family members birthday because she had never been there so figured she should have that experience. Out of a group of six two had never been to the Exchange. They took our drink and appetizer orders sorry non of us need to spend the money on drinks so it was a tea and soda drink list and 3 appetizers one full order of Rocky Mountain Oysters and two orders of the Calamari, the RMO were either over fried or under fried depending on the handful you grabbed, and the Calamari were tasteless to the point that we thought they were breaded Cauliflower. We were constantly interrupted by a wait staff person in fact several that wanted to take our plates with appetizers still on then the RMO was half eaten and they wanted the basket the Calamari had 1 piece left and they had someone take it so they could have their plate back. My wife and I had the steak for 2 the 2lb steak I wanted rare and she wanted medium but were told it had to be one or the other when it came out it was burnt to a crisp on the outside and extremely rare in the middle. The 2lb steak was a terrible cut of meat which they then cut in half at the table why could they not of done that in the kitchen and cooked the 2 pieces to order so the 1 big chunk of meat could be cooked evenly so the outside was not over cooked and the inside rare. While my wife was eating and still had half of her food left on her plate one of the wait staff tried to take her plate. We got dessert and another wait staff was there to take the dessert plates before they were completed. We paid our bill and while we are trying to leave the wait staff is clearing our table while we are trying to get up and leave rather then give us a minute to clear out. I understand the appeal to this particular eatery but I’m sorry appeal or not it was a terrible experience. Sorry we only ate 650.00 dollars worth of food and did not double that with alcohol but you should still treat the customer better then we...
Read moreI was excited to try this place but also nervous it would just be another tourist trap. I'm happy to say it was anything but a tourist trap! The entire experience was top notch! We started off with the 1/2 order of Rocky Mountain Oysters, took some real convincing to get the wife to try them, along with the sirloin game tips just in case the RMO were a miss. I gotta admit, we could've just gone w the RMO and been happy with them as they were fantastic! For dinner, we both got the chefs special for that night, an elk and buffalo tenderloin served with your choice of potatoes and steamed veggie medley. Steaks were cooked to perfection an lightly seasoned to enhance their natural flavors. The elk, as expected, was a bit more to the chewy side as it is wild game and had just a slight hint of gaminess but not overwhelming. The buffalo though was a hit for both of us. Very tender and more flavor than a beef tenderloin. We finished it all off with a shared rocky road brownie that held its own in comparison to the rest of dinner. We also had a few drinks to go along with dinner, the wild bill somethin or other, it was simply apple juice and bourbon. I'm a bourbon lover and was skeptical of this drink but happy to say I'll be making it at home now! Such a simple concept, but damn it was good! And finally, the service from Dora was not to be outdone by the food! Her recommendations were a hit at every turn and the rest of the staff were great at keeping the table cleared between each round and waters topped off. If you've never been, and are in the Denver area, I would consider Buckhorn Exchange a must stop! We'll...
