Despite being ignored by the hipster staff when I arrived, I continued to order when it was my turn. After repeating my order of 6 bagels back to me, the employee gave me 5 bagels unbeknownst to me. This might not have been such a big deal, but, apparently you must ring yourself up for your bill at this establishment (although tip jars still sit conspicuously in front of the registers as if the "service" provided deserves further compensation). So, in ringing myself up for the 6 bagels I ordered and that were repeated back to me, I paid the full price, only to arrive at home to realize 6 is just too hard a number for a employees of a business centered around the Dozen quantity. Some may ask, "if I were paying for my own things why didn't I check the quantity?". To which I might respond, "when I walked into the establishment full of what appeared to be capable adults I did not think to both check the work of aforementioned adults, NOR did I assume that with a full staff present that I'd be handling 1/3of their job for them (in the event I had known I would have to count my selection it would have been more like 1/2 of the work required on my order) in ringing myself up". So in summation, I walked into Moe's to first be ignored by the staff, then upon being helped (again with 6 bagels - half of one dozen) I was given the incorrect order, and finally upon going to pay I stood at a unmarked, non-informative register to await payment only to find it, as well as checking ones own order after an adult made it, was self service and that the full staff around me in a bagel shop that wasnt busy still expect tips, as per the TWO separate tip jars located in front of the SELF SERVE registers. Needless to say I will not be back, I will convince whomever I can to do the same and if I do find myself back at Moes I'll be sure to order a dozen plain bagels this time (so as not to confuse the staff) and promptly check MYSELF out at the register for 6 (again, the number HALF...
Read moreThe manager here is extremely incapable, lazy, rude and inconsiderate. I placed a pickup order online - the phone number didn’t work, which was a toasted bagel with a few toppings. Since it wasn’t a standard item listed the closest selection was a buttered bagel and added them to add toppings, and make a note in special instructions.
The one bagel order not only took 40 minutes from the time it was placed (which I get they maybe were short staffed who knows), but what was infuriating was getting an email while waiting that it was cancelled. They knew my husband was there to pick it up and told him it would be longer. Instead of trying to call me or let him know, they lied and said they tried to reach me. Rather then making it and then telling us that it would cost more and charging for more when it was picked up, they cancelled the order I guess bc that was easy for them and completely careless.
This simple one bagel pickup has turned me away for good. Too bad - I have gone to Moe’s for years, mostly in Boulder which was always amazing - the employees and the quality.
Their poor business practices, or maybe stupidity, who knows, will keep me from going back. I can’t imagine I’m the only one who has experienced something like this.
If the manager on Grant street is reading this, I recommend starting at the ground up working as a cashier to develop people skills and the fundamentals in good business practices. You are a long way from being in management successfully or anyone looking up to you for advice...
Read moreDecent food, horrendous service. I was there around noon and there was maybe about 5 other people in line. It took them 15 minutes to even take my order. Now, this isn't a thing of they were busy or out of ingredients and had to use man power to cook, there were 7 people working and just 2 people making food. The cashier and other employees were just standing around the register chatting while the line slowly grew of people waiting to have their order taken. Having worked similar fast-casual places, the issue isn't staffing (again) but how they operate at a fundamental level. Someone will take your order then they, personally, will make your bagels. No ticketing system, no dedicated line workes, just old fashion marker and paper. When they are actually busy it becomes a nightmare and surprisingly even when not busy it become a major bottleneck. Why there was only 2 people taking orders AND making food while the rest of the staff ideally stands around when they could be at least queued up orders instead of making people wait for 15 minutes I do not know. Again, this not my first experience with Moe's having this issue. I just decided to finally write up my experiences to save other people the hassle and to take your business else where or at the very least order online ahead.
Bottom line: Food is ok, not the best even in the cap hill area imo but the service is slow making it not worth it. Would recommend ordering online unless you want to have your time wasted by...
