4th trip to the Detroit Beer Co. over a period of time. We stopped by to grab a bite to eat before the Tigers - Cubs game. Each time previously, the food, the service, and the beer had been good. We must have chosen poorly this time.
The appetizer was Ahi Tuna which is very good. My son and I ate enough of it to stave off our hunger while we drank a beer. If you like a Summer beer which is not over powering, I thought the "Zazzy Speedo" was pretty good. A fruit beer with a mild hops background. It can sneak up on you though. My son ordered the "Gooseberry Brut" which tasted good also.
For food, my son ordered the Doner Kabob which comes in a tortilla. I thought I would try the Detroit Burger, tomato and onions, cooked medium, and with Gouda Cheese. The side was to be "unseasoned" fries. Simple enough, I thought.
The waiter brought us water which was great so we could hydrate before the game. The food took a little longer to get; but, we were in no hurry. Both entrees were delivered by someone other than our original waiter. The Doner Kabob came and it looked good. My burger came and it too looked good.
Having had good experiences before, I felt this would be one also. The first hint of trouble was the "seasoned" fries which was some type of cheesy flake coating(?). I bit into the burger and there was no Smoked Gouda. I ordered medium and discovered well done. I did not want to reorder and wait so I ate. Some how my original order was switched off with someone else's order.
I notified the waiter and they adjusted my bill. We got the bill and I gave them my debit card. The waiter returned with the debit card copy for a bill for a different person. I called her over and asked why the change in the totals. I was given the wrong bill. In the end I was charged for both bills. The waiter removed the bogus one (took two days to clear the bank [keep your receipts]). We paid and tipped also (people struggle enough to make ends meet).
Obviously this time, it was not to be a good experience. Two stars only because of the beer was good. The mistake on the order, the mistake on the bill, and then a mistaken double billing which did not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went here this weekend before the Tigers game. We had a reservation for a larger group that was coming across state to meet up. We were not all able to make it on time, but they kept our reservation as long as possible and still gave us a table for everyone that was there. They allowed us to add chairs as more people showed up.
Being new costumers, we asked for suggestions about the beer since there was not a menu describing them. A few of us were misled, mostly because of a short, uninterested/unknowing response from our server. I started with the Double Play IPA, which my server told me was your best IPA. I wasn't that impressed. I don't see it on your site to verify it was even an IPA as I wasn't sure it was an IPA. I then sampled the Local 1529 IPA which was pretty good.
The food was amazing. I didn't talk to anyone that thought otherwise.
Here is my issue: the server. I will start by saying we were not the easiest group: 14 people showing up at different times. We started with 8 people and grew to 14 people. However, our server took a long time to come and check on our drinks; see if anyone needed anything else. Some drinks were not to our liking, as described before. Then it came to bill time; he gave the original group of 8 one bill and the joiners their own individual tabs. When we offered to number the bill 1-5 to cover the groups and put the cards in matching order, he said to figure it out yourself and walked away. This was a very big turn off to me and my group. We're unsure if his biggest motive was to receive his automatic tip of 18% because of the large group or because of his mere laziness in asking his guests and figuring out the bill. Either way, his uninterest in pleasing his customers stuck with this group.
I will probably not be coming back here even though the location to the ballpark is amazing. The server really turned us off...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI should have read the reviews prior to trying this place out. My husband and I stopped for dinner before going to see Phantom of the Opera. We understood it was a Friday night, and the location is ideal so we expected it to be busy. We arrived just before 6:00pm, and we were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait. No big deal, again to be expected. We finally got seated at 6:40 pm. We knew they were busy so we planned on ordering everything. We ordered two drinks, a ālarge pretzelā, and our meal- after waiting another 15 minutes for the waitress to stop at our table. The ālarge pretzelā was actually 3 pretzel rods that were lukewarm. We got our drinks and appetizers, but not our main course. After 45 minutes we started noticing tables seated after us getting their meals- hereās the best part: they ordered what we ordered! I ordered the French dip sandwich, and my husband ordered a burger. A table next to us ordered the same thing, and a table behind us ordered two burgers. The waitress said she was trying to get the kitchen staff to get our meal out but we had to leave in 15 mins to make the show. 15 mins went by and she never came back with our food. Everyone else got their food around us, except us. The manager came over, gave an excuse about a printer issue- however after reading the reviews from 10 months ago this seems to be a reoccurring problem. The manager told us he would cover the tab and apologized for the terrible service. As we left without eating dinner we overheard our waitress say to the manager āI assume no tipā. While the beer was good, the food and service were not. Iām giving this a two star rating because the beer was good, and the manager...
