Editing my initial review. Went in to get some pre-dinner anniversary drinks Saturday night. The male bartender (longer hair, tattooed arms) was unfriendly and made us feel absolutely unwelcome. I asked about a drink they previously had on the menu and he said “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The female bartender overheard and explained that the drink I was inquiring about was from a previous menu and they would be unable to reproduce it lol. I don’t expect to be best friends with our server/bartender but coming from a hospitality background I expect professionalism and friendliness. He asked if we were ready to order (we clearly were not) and stood there glaring at us with his arms crossed. Just got awful human being vibes from this guy. Will never return. A far cry from our initial visit which was awesome. Aside from that terrible experience at the Candy bar, I went to use the lower level bathroom of the hotel lobby and the bathroom was leaking some liquid substance from the ceiling. It dripped on my hair. There was a puddle where I was standing. I informed reception who seemed unfazed and unapologetic. Overall this place declined drastically in a matter of months. The hotel vibe went from Havana to Haunted Mansion. The Candy bar gave me vibes from the bar scene in the Shining although I think the bartender from that movie was 100 times more pleasant than what we experienced Saturday night.
Had a few pre-dinner drinks here. Such a beautiful and intimate lounge. It looks like Mariah Carey’s house on MTV cribs back in the early 2000’s. I mean that in the best way possible. Our bartender Alec was kind and attentive and made us awesome drinks. One of which I really loved called the Scarlet Begonia. We will definitely be back...
Read moreReally 3.5 -The bar is very elegant. If you have been to the Bad Luck Bar or Johnny’s I would recommend visiting this bar at least once. The service is mixed depending on whose working. The cocktails are decent. This place is quite fabulous in it’s own way, but I believe the drinks need more flourish and/or flair(presentation) especially considering their prices and what their competition offers in the same price range. I do think the cocktail menu should be updated with some newer options to show a better variety. At this point they have no issues with traffic due to it’s aesthetic and the fact that it’s connected to the Siren Hotel. It’s nice to have a nice bar inside a trendy hotel. For that reason I think it will stay busy for a while, but as other competitive bars(including high end bars connected to hotels) continue to grow I think they may need to eventually introduce some changes. In relation to its size, yes it is small but most exclusive or high end bars are. In addition there are bars in Detroit that are smaller. I will say it is very whimsical inside. It is vintage with mid century influences and a lot of pink. The aesthetic itself is worth a visit. You may luck out with a seat or two from walking in but it is usually hard to get in that way even with a small party. I would highly recommend making a reservation well in advance. I will say that I have had complications with reservations in the past. I do feel like some parties are rushed because other parties linger too long or the restaurant double books. It’s important for that reason to book well in advance and call the day of as well. I will definitely go back if I’m staying in the hotel or in the area. Though I wouldn’t go out of my way as I have done for...
Read moreDefinitely agree with everyone - Host is RUDE! Came with a friend one evening. It's was a packed night. After about a 20 minute wait, we finally got 2 seats at the bar. There was a main Bartender (guy with ponytail - nice and informative who was the ONLY one to acknowledge us) Barback (male - who noticed us sit at the bar but never acknowledged us) another Barback (female - who also noticed us but wouldn't stop wiping down glasses to acknowledge us) and one Waitress (for the tables). We finally got our drinks but we were never offered water. I noticed everyone who was seated after us at the bar (mainly Caucasian) was greeted with water. I looked at both Barbacks and then back at our drinks and then looked at everyone else's drink. I finally called over to the female Barback to ask her for 2 waters and she acted like I was bothering her. It's a nice bar, very posh, love the music. However, the service is definitely LACKING. What it could lack is discrimination, just saying. We ended up at Karl's (a diner upstairs) it featured a Jazz band (more our crowd) which was great! However, I peeped at the Menu at Karl's. OMG! $19 Spaghetti with meatballs and $26 Steak and eggs?! Definitely NOT...
