Tropics Pool Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Dr. Phillips

Let's start this off by saying that my experience may not be indicative of what you may experience. There could be a chance I just hit it at the wrong time, on the wrong day, with the wrong folks. Always that chance!

"Tropics" - this is not an establishment I can recommend to anyone to actually dine at... This is likely on me as I assumed that the Hilton may have some legit poolside foos. Boy was I incorrect.

My experience with "topics" was just poor from start to finish. I truly hate to leave less than a 3 star review, but I found it hard to award stars beyond the (1 star) convenience, and the (second star) friendliness of the wait staff on the floor.

Where things went wrong started at the bar. The bartender I had was rude and the drinks tragically overpriced and poorly made. $12 for a mixed drink (not even a cocktail) with so little alcohol is either a sign of poor management, bar practice, or a bartender who just should t have been on duty.

Things further went downhill at a dining table where we ordered a few burgers. I'll simply say that I would avoid these at all costs! Said e your $12-$16 and go to the King or the Clown and get a more satisfying experience. Seriously, avoid the burgers at all costs.

Again, your milage may vary, but I can't recommend ordering anything more than a water here. I truly hope that my experience was the exception, and that you have better luck. Ask other patrons their thoughts before taking the gamble here. Your safer bet is to walk into the"Scratch Market" inside for a better chance of getting something...

If you have RACHEL as your server BEWARE, here’s a couple of key notes you should pay attention to especially if you are by yourself or with less than 5 people. Pay attention to your receipt. She automatically includes her tip. I later found out by her manager automatic gratuity should only be included for a party of 5 or more and I was solo the majority of the day. If you are with someone who is using a payment app or has cash, and you have a credit card, she will put an unauthorized hold on your credit card for the other person’s order until the person pays. When my friend arrived at the resort hours later, she only had her credit card on her phone similar to Apple Pay. Rather than say to my friend, unfortunately I can’t take your order unless you pay at the restaurant (we were at the lazy pool) she sneakily authorized my credit card for her order and had the audacity to say she has to look for herself AND she automatically added her gratuity! In my humble opinion she is a SCAMMER, which I stated to her manager. The manager did apologize and modify our bill but the damage was...

I have came here as a Resort Pass guest for the day during the week and also as a hotel guest and pool/bar patron and both times have been stellar. During the week, slower and easy going. Weekend, there’s a DJ and it’s a blast for everyone. My party has us, early 30s and our kids 4 and 11. The service always is great and so is the food quality.
