We have been to LoLo Hawaiian BBQ twice. We are from out of town, but we go there when we visit.
FOOD PORTIONS: Both visits, we've ordered the "family meal for 4". WOW! I think they are talking about 4 very large Hawaiian adults. Both times, the amount of food has fed my family of 5 TWICE, which is great! We eat at the restaurant, and have tasty leftovers for another meal.
For reference, with that order, we get 8 large scoops of rice, 4 large scoops of macaroni salad, 4 large chicken thighs of each chicken type, and sauces. It is a LOT of food.
FOOD TASTE: we've only had the Teriyaki Chicken and the Hawaiian BBQ chicken. Both taste delicious. They are similar, but the Teriyaki chicken comes pre-sliced and has the sauce on it. Our pre-teen and teenage kids and us parents all really loved the food. It is such a tasty combination of flavors! Just watch for some fat on the thighs, but most renders off.
ATMOSPHERE: both times we've been to LoLo, the restaurant is nearly empty (we ate a bit early), so there has been plenty of seating. The tables were clean. The floors were cleans. The music was Hawaiian music to feel more authentic. The seats are comfortable. It is nothing fancy at all, but comfy and clean.
We like it. We'll be back. Wish there was...
Read moreTo eat, I ordered a mini plate with rice, mac and teri beef, a side of spam and a side of gyoza. The spam was decent, other Hawaiian places make better. The gyoza was fried way too long, it was so hard and crunchy but to the point where it wasn’t enjoyable. The rice was fine, it was literally just rice. The mac was underwhelming, and had pretty much no flavor. My biggest complaint was the steak. My boyfriend took one bite and spit the whole piece back out onto the plate because he couldn’t even chew it. I tried it and had the same gross experience. Just by looking at it, there were stringy parts and a ton of fat. We ate and spit out the piece we tried then threw it away. Super disappointing when you pay 23$ for food and you can’t even eat it because it’s not chewable or palatable. I was going to say something but I didn’t want to seem rude. Mo bettahs charges the same price but the steak is so much...
Read moreA solid place for Hawaiian BBQ. Fast casual style, massive portions, delicious food, and consistent quality. I have stopped in on many visits to the area and always look forward to it. I mich prefer it compared to its competitor in the area.
I ordered the mini chicken teriyaki plate: the portion is still massive (see photo). The teriyaki sauce is not overly sweet, and love getting extra sauce on the side. The rice was fluffy and not bland or over/under cooked.
My brother had the chicken katsu and it was perfectly crispy outside and still juicy on the inside. The katsu sauce was delicious.
I like that there was an option for either a garden salad or a mac salad. I chose the garden salad, but their Mac salad is decent.
We shared an order of the fried gyoza- they were so juicy and the dipping sauce was the perfect mix of soy and vinegar.
A tip: pick up a spam musubi or two. You...
