The wait time was 85 minutes.
Oh man. We read the reviews and we noticed most either seem to be 5 stars or 1 star. We thought hey, there's no way this place has won best of state 9 times and is this bad. Boy we were wrong. First off the male server had long fake fingernails, before you come at me for not being whatever, I don't care what you identify as, having your nasty dirty fingernails where we put our mouths to drink out of and touch our utensils is disgusting. There is a reason fake long nails are not allowed when working around food. The waiter did ask several times if we wanted something from the kitchen while he was back there so that was nice except no waters were refilled the entire time we were there. I guess you are supposed to ask for your drinks to be refilled if you're lucky enough to have the server show up in a timely manner. We read some reviews and decided to try the gravy before ordering, it was disgusting. No flavor, just salt. It says homemade. There's no way, unless opening a can is considered homemade now. We should have done a sample of the hollandaise sauce, unfortunately we didn't and paid the price, literally. When they brought the food out, the bottoms of the plates were touching other people food, so the bottom of the plates were gross and dripping food. We ordered the cordon bleu. Tried one bite, almost threw up, the chicken was rubbery and gross, the hollandaise sauce tasted like runny rancid mayonnaise, no spices, nothing. All the adults at the table tried it and it was unanimously disgusting. We must have gotten lucky with the pancakes, they tasted really good and so did the chile verde nachos. They do give very few chips, so keep that in mind. The potatoes as others have said are stale and no flavor. The eggs were okay. We are 99% sure the French toast is just bread dipped in eggs, maybe a splash of milk, but our child who is not picky with anything French toast related spit out his food into a napkin. Again, all adults tried it and were amazed they messed up French toast. In the end they discounted half of the cordon bleu even though it was barely touched. (Will include a photo for reference) Whatever, it is what it is, I would say trust your instincts, and if you are adamant to try this place, try a sample before you go all in. There is also a waiting area in the back by the bathrooms which they finally mentioned after we stood there awkwardly for 15 minutes. Overall, we will never go here again. The 2 stars are for the pancakes and the chile...

This was my second time visiting Penny Ann's Cafe, and I'm already planning my next trip back. This time, I brought my daughter and her family, and we all had a wonderful experience.
The food is simply amazing. Everything is made fresh to order, and you can taste the quality in every bite. I had the Heavenly Hot Cakes, which are fluffy and delicious. My wife had the Breakfast Burrito, which was packed with eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. It was huge and delicious. My daughter had the French Toast, which she said was just as good as when she had it in-house. The service is also top-notch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the restaurant is very clean.
I'm also happy to report that Penny Ann's Cafe is very accessible for people with disabilities. I have a power wheelchair, and I was able to get around the restaurant with ease.
If you're looking for a great place to eat breakfast or lunch in Salt Lake City, I highly recommend Penny Ann's Cafe. It's a true local gem, and you won't be disappointed.
Here are some other things I loved about Penny Ann's Cafe:
The prices are very reasonable. The portions are huge. There is a wide variety of menu items to choose from. The restaurant is family-friendly. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Overall, I had an amazing experience at Penny Ann's Cafe, and I will definitely be back soon.
Here are some tips for visiting Penny Ann's Cafe:
The restaurant is very popular, so I recommend you to be patient. There is a parking lot, but sometimes it can get crowded, so you may want to allow extra time for parking. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch only. The staff is happy to answer any questions you have about the menu.
I hope this review helps you decide to check out Penny Ann's Cafe. You won't be...
Read moreWe have eaten at this joint before, and it was usually decent. Our experience today was awful. We came in when the restaurant was winding down (an hour before closing). There weren't all that many people at the restaurant. We ordered our food and waited for probably close to 45 minutes. At some point the waiter told us that the kitchen is taking forever and asked us if we even wanted to wait. I wish we took the hint and left, but we decided that it was worth the wait... Our food finally came. Cold. I don't know about you, but I like my over easy eggs hot or at least warm. My side of French toast was so cold that butter wouldn't even spread on top of it. It seemed like it was just taken out of the fridge. My husband's chicken cordon blue didn't look or taste anything like it and it was also cold. I also ordered a waffle that was brought to the table next to us, sat there for a minute, then it was returned as they didn't order it, then it sat on the table by the kitchen, then finally it was brought to our table. I just ate my disgusting cold eggs and had a taste of a very cold French toast. I didn't want to top it off with a cold waffle that has travelled around the restaurant. When we said that we didn't want that waffle for the mentioned above reasons, our concerns were dismissed by "it was just a minute. Come on!" we were then told that they cannot re-make the waffle for us and that we either take the one they brought or none. We chose none. We then heard our waiter talking trash about us to his work friends, very classy. I understand that it is hard to get good help these days, but this experience was awful. I have never seen anyone treating customers this way. We will not be coming back, and I will make sure that all my friends and family know how awful...
