Let me start off by saying I dont normally do reviews. My wife and I went on a day trip to Duluth. We are originally for Phx and have not found any taqueria that could hold a candle to what we were accustomed to. My wife was a little hesitant to pick this Chachos because the seating was outside and it was in the mid 30s.
I reminded her that some of the best Mexican we have ever had comes from places that only have outdoor seating. So we ordered.
We order Birria and Cochinita tacos. Let me start the Birria tacos were top notch. The meat was flavorful, the cheese and onion and cilantro complimented each other well and the consume sauce completed the Birria tacos. This paired with the Salsa Verde and Bondito salsa was great. I will get back to the Bondito salsa in a moment.
The Cochinita tacos were probably 1 of the best top 5 tacos I have ever tasted. Possible top 3. The pork was shredded and tender. The pickled red onion and cilantro added exceptional complimentary flavors to the pork. And the corn shells were cooked to perfection. The flavor was absolutely mouth watering. This taco was nothing less then the chefs kiss.
NOW LETS TALK BONDITO. It's a habanero golden raisen salsa. It is a blended smooth sauce that I didn't want to even try because I'm not in to fruity salsa. This has to be in my top 3 salsas of all time in not number 1. This salsa was not hot to me but I enjoy super spicy foods and found it to have a good heat level but not hot. The raisens and habanero blended exquisitely together to give the sauce a little sweetness and a little heat. This, on top of the Cochinita taco, was an explosion of flavors that I had not found in the northern wisconsin and Minnesota area since moving from AZ.
We live 2 1/2 hours away and we had these tacos yesterday and our mouths are still watering thinking about them. The only regrett I have is not trying more and not taking pictures but we will be back again for more and we will document the food...

Long review: Best Tacos I've ever had? Yes, tasty, 5 Stars!
2x more expensive than I think it should cost? Yes, deducting a star for $$.
I arrived alone like a lone wolf with hopes to satisfy my taco crave after Dan Hanger told me about it opening up recently on Fox 21 news. You walk up to the window and wait for your order outside. It took about 4min to receive my order, which is comforting that it's lovingly made by hand. It is not a sit down inside place, but there is a large patio to hang out on outside if you choose to eat there. I brought my own bottle of water and ordered up 2 tacos + 15% tip ~ $11.
I need at least 3 of these Tacos to satisfy, that would have been $15ish dollars, which is too much for me. I could not afford to bring my family here if I had one. The wives could probably be good with two tacos. Not sure if kids have the pallet to appreciate appreciate the sophisticated tastes on these tacos, and they would also want two tacos to fill them up.
I'm all for having the tourists pay these prices but... My price point/suggestion would be to roll up with a $10 and get 4 tacos. I'd call it the Local. Show your license to prove you have a Local address and get your 4 tacos for $10. Drinks, dessert, and other things are extra. Then I'd be back again...and again...and again.
I'm eating here weekly if I'm rich. ...
Read moreTo have people as dedicated to tacos in life as me and my family is such a gift. To have them within walking distance of our home is a luxury — a dangerous one. My husband, son, and I stopped by last night to experience the new indoor spot. I am so excited to have this option and we are looking forward to many family dinners here in the coming months. The vibrant colors, music, and layout of the space were spot on and gave us energy at the end of a gray, cloudy Duluth day. The addition of the new veggie taco is greatly appreciated. I lean vegan, and leveraging mushrooms in tacos is one of my favorite uses for them. I loved the addition of the cauliflower, and the raisins were a nice twist. Maybe next up in menu development could be a carnitas mushroom taco perhaps? My family devoured their birria, chorizo, and carnitas tacos, just like they always do when we visit Chachos. Spot on, and always a pleasure to eat these tacos. Chachos team — keep going. Duluth needs you, we need you, and your tacos...
