As locals, we LOVE OBC! They are small- we prefer that!-so they do tend to get really packed during sunset or Dunedin events. Their limited menu is always good, regardless of what we order! My husband ate the grouper tacos, which for us locals we are very picky about, and these were delicious! My 10 year old son always gets their Cuban. Again, very tasty, with roasted pork and good quality bread. I always mix it up between their healthier options. This time I tried their ahi tuna appetizer, but I added the Asian noodles to make it a meal. Although I was not "full" to excess, It was a very tasty and satisfying meal, with lots of fresh ginger in the sauce (YUM!), AND I did not feel bloated afterward. For drinks, we usually go with a local 7th Sun or a Reef Donkey beer, although, this time I tried their sangria. They offer both red and white varieties, but being a red wine gal, I opted for that. It was nice and refreshing, and- pleasant BONUS for me-not too sweet! Their location is unbeatable- right where Dunedin's famed downtown Main St. meets the Gulf waters- and their laid-back atmosphere can't be beat! Worth the wait to hang and grab a cold one (or 2) from their extensive craft beer selection and a great meal, while catching another gorgeous Florida sunset! Cheers! Oh, PS~they also have a fish market on premise. I occasionally purchase a nice filet from their fresh catch selection to grill at home. I've never been disappointed with their selection or...
Read moreFour stars based on the awesome location. The food was sort of bland but I only ordered scallops and honestly was only there for the great view anyway!
Dunedin Fish Market and the Olde Bay Cafe is located near the Dunedin Marina where a lot of people dock their boats. It's got a perfect view of the water and an AMAZING view of the sunset. It really can't be beat in this respect.
You can grab a seat on the bar area which overlooks the water if you want to enjoy the day and partake in a great view of Tampa Bay. The place is pretty busy, presumably based on its location, but the menu has quite a few offerings in terms of fresh seafood and bar bites.
I ordered scallops and a side of vegetables. I received four scallops for $12, which is SUPER pricy in my opinion. The scallops were just okay. I think they had the shells still on them? They were sort of crunchy and weird. The vegetables were pretty good, but nothing special. They were just steamed.
I saw several people with peel-n-eat shrimp that looked fabulous and wish I would have gotten that, but alas! I did not. The crab cakes looked awesome too. So...honestly, I'd give this place 2.5 stars for the food itself. It was pretty mediocre.
The service was friendly and pretty quick though, which was nice since I was by myself.
I'd come back to see the sunset and to try out other menu items if I was in the area, but probably wouldn't actively seek to go to this place...
Read moreAccidentally walked into the EMPTY open-air seating area of this near empty place while trying to find my way other side of the docks to see a visiting manatee (thought the walkway around and into this place was a public path until it was too late and I was confronted by an employee). I apologized to the "hostess" for my mistake, not realizing I had inadvertently walked into a restaurant; I laughed at myself and tried to downplay my error...and was literally shoo-d out by the most unfriendly lady with zero sense of humor (or apparent like for her job) to leave and go back out to the sidewalk and around the precious - empty - patio. I was actually looking for a place to eat at the time but wanted to see the manatee first. I took my family to another restaurant, much further down the street, rather than dine here...a missed opportunity for this restaurant. She would have lost nothing to let me walk the last 10 feet to the exit and onto the sea wall, but chose to literally "shoo" me with her hands and tell me to leave the (empty) patio. Manatees draw tourists, Dunedin's beauty draws tourists, tourists eat out, eating out keeps restaurants in business...just a thought...
