I love this place, more specifically this location. My friends and I had actually been frequenting it as of late because the food is amazing, the atmosphere beautiful and the service is usually wonderful. However, the last time we went the service was far from stellar and left both my best friends and my sister as well as me feeling as though our server had a negative racial bias towards us. We had decided to stop at the cafe after having dinner to have dessert and coffee. Unfortunately my other best friend who was going to join us was running late we told her that we would wait there for her as none of us had any engagements afterwards and we wanted to spend some time with her after she had a rather difficult day at work. As we were waiting for her to arrive both myself and my other best friend were taking turns looking out for her arrival so we could wave her in, in case she didnt or couldn't see where we were sitting. Apparently our server saw us looking out the door ever so often and came to us and her exact words were, " I see that you guys have been watching the door for a little while And I was just wondering why, is there something that you need or..." we were all taken aback by her words and apparent assumption. I hope it's just due to her lack of experience that, that lapse of professionalism occurred and not because she saw 3 women of color waiting for a friend that she wasn't aware of which may have caused her to assume that we may were going to attempt to dine and dash in, her apparent opinion. When we came in we asked for a table of 4 as we knew our other friend would be joining us and we thought she had been informed or I don't know she had forgotten but that was a most incorrect way to ask if someone needed help or to assuage herself of whatever she was feeling. We ended up staying until our friend arrived and she ordered something to eat and something you drink as she hadn't had anything to eat that day and dye to work but the entire experience witj that server after her comment was poor at best. She stopped coming to our table regularly, when we asked for additinal items all of our orders were either made wrong or charted to the wrong person. She didn't respond to us when my friend asked for a to tell us the list of appetizers because my friend accidentally closed out the Internet Explorer that she was on to view the menu and was having a difficult time pulling it back up. She just stared at us and my other friend had to inform her of the appetizers instead. She eventually stopped coming to the table and it was i believe a very nice gentleman (possibly the manager) who eneded up helping us and fixing her mistakes until we left. I believe the server either needs further training or to find another job if she is so inclined i to be influenced by her own racial bias. It was the most disappointing experience I've ever had the many many times that I've gone to the cafe. I wish I could remember her name, but I do remember is that this occured all I know it was 2 Friday evenings ago she was tall slim and possibly Caucasian as I don't like to make assumptions I can't say that I knew for sure what her racial background was. And yes we were there for a while and we ordered more desserts and more drinks so it's not like we were sitting at his table not doing anything there were a lot of things that we wanted to try and share with each oth each other we weren't impolite to her we didn't do anything outside of looking for a friend but apparently that caused her to be very worried I truly hope that as a whole there's some kind of education for the staff so that no one will have to go through being mgrew being mean to feel this way again when they go somewhere to spend lots to relax after a very difficult day at work because that's exactly what it was...

After chatting with Mrs. Page via phone today, I feel that she really cared about my experience and really wanted to resolve the matter. She truly listened to the problems I had during my experience that night and deeply apologized.
She did not ask me to change my review, I wanted to do it because Mrs. Page truly is trying to make sure that her and her husband's business - Cafe Intermezzo - treats every customer fairly and with the utmost respect. Thank you Mrs. Page for talking with me today. I respect the way you run your cafe and am looking forward to my next visit.
Tonight a group of us decided to go to Cafe Intermezzo to grab a couple slices of cake and coffees. We didn't want to wait the hour it would take to sit at a table, so we decided to take it to go instead. Near the cheesecakes a friend in our group started talking to someone behind the counter. I believe it was the general manager who ran the to go orders (I think her name was either Alexa or Alexis) told us that we need to get in line and pay at the register. If that was not the GM that night, than it was the lady who ran and managed the coffee/cake/bar station. Overall that's was not a problem at all..so we did what we were told.
We were next in line and waited for around 30 minutes to even get served. The restaurant was busy, the bar was full, and their was a line for the to-go orders, so we understood. Meanwhile, a family (of 8 or so) was in the back of the to go line and started to chat to the same person that told us to get in the line. Next thing we know, the same lady takes the families order (which was a BIG order) and gave the order to the person behind the register and told her to ring them up. This let the family cut the line, which was easy a line of 4-5 different paying customers. This left us waiting for an additional 20 minutes.
Once the family paid and it was our turn, I looked at the cashier and said "Did the she really let them jump in line?" and the cashier responded "unfortunately yes." She could tell we were not pleased.
On top of that, someone from our group was going to order the bosco and was in line right behind us. Due to that same incident of letting the family jump a head of everyone - the same person behind the counter pulled the bosco out of the display and told my friend it was on hold. Our friend ended up not ordering anything because of this situation. Even though she would have had the opportunity to a slice of the bosco before the family would have.
The lack of customer services for the people following the rules that were set from the beginning was BEYOND disrespectful and not how a business should be ran. The family should have waited just like everyone else had to and the person running the behind the bar station needed to follow what she the system that is put in place. Especially since she told us to follow it. This woman should have more integrity for her own management and keep the same principles for all fellow customers getting to go orders.
Our experience was beyond...
Read moreCafé intermezzo’s food has definitely changed and not for the better. I should have researched their dinner menu before arrival, I figured it’s Cafe Intermezzo, I’ll always find something good.
Three stars one for excellent customer service, one for desserts and coffee and one for ambiance (it’s always that lovely old world classic European charm).
For a Sunday night at 8pm there was oddly a wait for table as they observe strict social distancing, however I didn’t mind because I like eating at the bar. (Also I’d rather not have have someone sneezing and not covering right next to me.)
The dinner menu was disappointing as a menu with the selections as I was expecting a more French European menu given the name. I’ve been coming to Intermezzo for the past twelve years. Now it’s more of a mix of random café food that you could probably find anywhere.
I was expecting a dinner menu as coq au vin, steak frites, possibly a duck confit or at the very least Steak au Povire with haricot vertes (peppercorn steak & green beans). Unfortunately we were out of luck there was no such thing on the menu. The only dish which resembled some thing that could be French was the salmon dish with herb garlic butter however this included mussels which is a very confusing pairing. (Why would one combine a creamy and not salty fish with some thing that was salty?)
I chose the seemingly least problematic dish, the appetizer mussels without tomatoes. Unfortunately this was disappointing b/c of a very salty broth more like a puddle (most likely not enough water). The assumption is if I had left in the tomatoes, which I do not eat because of it’s inflammatory properties, it might have cut the salt. Also considering it was a mussel dish, a simple garlic, herbs au Provence, shallots with white wine would have brought out the flavor of the seafood. Maybe the chef was upset or was having an off night?
My friend ordered the Chicken Florentine which actually was good and she liked it because she adores melted cheese. I however do not. She said the meat was slightly tough but the sauce was good and plenty of cheesy goodness.
The only really great thing was the service and dessert options and cake. Cafe intermezzo used to have a great dinner menu with not just pasta but great entrees like chicken marsala, steak au poivre but it seems they’re more interested in the coffee and desserts.
The lemon torte cake was delicious; the batter not too much lemon taste and not too sweet. The frosting was creamy and sweet and could have been more lemony tart. The decaf espresso, lacked in flavor and had no crema, was decent.
Our friends had ordered the Chocolate mousse gluten free cake and said it was heavenly and a pie which was also good.
All in all, come for dessert and possibly a great cup of coffee or espresso and/ or brunch. They actually do have a great brunch menu. Other than that not a good...
