The food was delicious! The ambience was so beautiful.
But unfortunately, our waitress' service towards us changed the dynamic of our experience.
We made it clear in the Reservation Notes and Upon Arrival that I was pregnant. And I asked her if it was possible to ask the chefs to make my entrees well-done for me. To which she said, "No they can't do that. But I'll ask for you. But it's not normal to ask that here."
We were a bit taken back but we have no issue going to a different restaurant that can serve well-done food. But we stayed because she came back and told us what was fully-cooked on the menu.
Unfortunately, she proceeded to make the whole dining experience very uncomfortable. As to continually remind me about my, "overly cooked food" and how she "would never order it like that" bc "why would anyone order like this."
My husband ordered sushi rolls. And I ordered their deep-fried snow crab roll, the Snow White Roll, fully-cooked.
Upon food arrival, she placed my husband's entrees down by their name, "Here is your New York Strip Roll and your Red Fantasy Roll." But for me, she placed my entree down and said, "And here's your very very overly cooked food." I completely understand that I may have become a bit sensitive at this moment of the meal, and I understand she may have been trying to make a joke. But it made me incredibly self-conscious.
Unfortunately, my husband is also a very atmospheric diner. Which means that even though the food was delicious, the vibe of the service towards me was what ended up changing his mind of the restaurant.
So although I deeply enjoyed the food, we won’t be returning due to personal impressions.
Again, our issue was never about the food. The food was wonderful. And we understand nigiri obviously isn’t meant to be cooked. We want to clarify that our issue was with how our waitress made us...
Read moreI reached out to Mikata to arrange a wedding reception dinner for my friends. We’re a casual group that doesn’t dine at upscale places, but we wanted to celebrate this special occasion somewhere nice. We were told we could book the entire upstairs area for privacy and agreed to a deposit and a minimum spend, which we gladly complied with.
On the night of the dinner, our waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive, setting a great tone for the evening. The bride and groom were in awe since we don’t typically do upscale outings. Everything seemed perfect—until, shortly after our appetizers arrived, another party of 5-6 was brought upstairs and seated, despite our understanding that we had exclusive use of the space.
Additionally, we were promised side tables to display the couple’s cake and photos, but midway through the meal, we were asked if one of those tables could be taken away, making it feel like our reservation, deposit, and minimum spend didn’t hold much weight.
Service issues continued when the groom’s Bento Box never arrived. After 1.5 hours, we had to ask to cancel it, as most of the guests had already finished eating. When I raised these concerns with the manager, Brian, he was apologetic and did make an effort to adjust the bill slightly. He also mentioned that the other party seated upstairs were essentially VIP—aka more important than us.
Despite these issues, the food and drinks were phenomenal—compliments to the chefs and bartenders. Our waiter was great throughout the night, and we still tipped him well. While the evening didn’t go as smoothly as we had hoped, the couple still enjoyed themselves. I really want to give Mikata a 3.5 star review, but considering the experience, I...
Read moreMikata offers an elevated sushi and Japanese food experience that does not disappoint.
They offer sushi rolls, hibachi (not in front of you), some small plate type dishes, as well as a regular bar AND sushi bar.
The space is new, fresh, clean, and open with plenty of seating spaced out, you won't feel crowded in here even with a full house. The service is great, definitely elevated from your standard dining experience.
The food is fantastic as well. I sat at the sushi bar and had a few different dishes. First was hamachi crudo - the yellowtail was extremely fresh, flavorful, and tender, with various flavors of the dish coming through. I had some ngiri and a sushi roll. The salmon belly was good and fresh, although the flavor was somewhat muted and neutral. The Tuna belly was very good, bursting with flavor and melts in your mouth. I also tried the salmon roe, which was solid, and the uni. The uni was..okay. Flavors were neutral on it. Middle of the pack uni, not bad but not great.
The owner Brian checked on me a couple of times, and we chatted about food and restraunts. Very personable service. He even offered a sushi roll off menu - the lemongrass roll. With some salmon, crab salad, and lemon, this one was fresh and flavorful. The two sushi chef's at the sushi bar were great as well and had lots of conversation with me. Staff was constantly taking away plates and refilling water.
Mikata is definitely a step up from your average sushi/hibachi spot. With a focus on service and quality, definitely give this place a try if you're ever looking for some higher quality...
