Van Leeuwen Ice Cream — Restaurant in East Rutherford

Christine was AMAZING! So incredibly patient, and was kind. She let both my boyfriend, my godson and myself try the different ice creams, which is rare in my book. My godson (7) was actually acknowledged by her, and let him make the decisions on which toppings he wanted (they had both chocolate and rainbow sprinkles, which of course is a kids dream.) While we were eating our ice cream we chatted with Christine about where to get a quick bite in the mall, and she gave us some recommendations. After finishing our ice cream, which was FANTASTIC (highly recommend the waffle cone), I mentioned to Christine that I was getting ice cream for my mother who was in the car. Christine suggested that she would keep the ice cream in the freezer until we were done getting a quick bite in the mall. After getting some food at the mall, we went back over to Christine who was dealing with a LARGE group of teenagers.

Christine saw me in line, stopped what she was doing, grabbed the ice cream for my mother, placed it gently into a nice bag, with a spoon, napkins, and gave it to me. I normally NEVER write any reviews on Google reviews, but her EXCELLENT service inspired me to write one.

While I waited for her to realize I was standing in line, her and her co-worker (I’m so sorry I forget your name, but it was right at the mall closing on April 30th), they navigated the large crowd of teenagers with kindness and patience (even though some of the teenagers weren’t listening when they finished their ice creams.)

Please give them ALL of the props for navigating the large crowd of teenagers and doing it with kindness, and patience.

Christine made my first experience with any Van Leeuwin products AMAZING! I live within 45 minutes of 3 of your scoop shops and would gladly drive the almost 2 hour drive to this location, just for the superb customer service.

I tried to find the contact email info to write the manager directly but was not present on the website. I brought my family in for ice cream at the American Dream Mall Location in NJ this past Thursday and ordered 4 small ice cream cups - 2 children and 2 adults. I paid and then the teenage young man behind the counter handed me five cups. Turns out he billed me for five cups (I did not know because I didn't see the amount until I had the receipt in my hand) and when I let him know he could have cared less and insisted we ordered five (for four people) I asked him to please refund the one ice cream I didn't order but paid for and he replied; "I don't know how to do that, you are going to have to call my manager" There was no manager on duty and this young teen was running the booth by himself at night. If you have someone working solo they should hopefully at least know how to run a register and/or issue a refund. The poor attitude and no apology was bad enough but I couldn't even get a refund. I try to be a bit more patient these days and I absolutely love that you have gluten free and vegan options so I will continue to support your business, however I hope that you seriously check into this and at the bare minimum teach your staff to apologize when they are wrong and to be able to work...

Their Ice Cream was delicious. Went there two days ago for the first time out of a recommendation from a relative that was with us who kept talking about the Van Leeuwen company. We got the Choc Fudge Brownie with Vegan whip cream and the Birthday Cake with rainbow sprinkles. Also, some other dairy options. The wait was not exactly great considering it's just a very small ice cream shop and not a store. Relatively speaking, the cooks at the food court gave us our meal much faster. We were two families together. Were served one group right behind the other. The first group of 3 was done with their ice cream when the second group of 4 got theirs, and finally joined us at the table. However, the ice cream was so delicious! The server was nice and kind, too! And we were in no rush at that point anyway. We just enjoyed the experience and are now going to be frequent customers of this new brand in our life wherever they may be located. Especially, for their very delicious vegan AND gluten free ice cream options! Looking forward to trying their limited edition flavors throughout the year. Happy that we found Van Leeuwen!
