My husband and I went to Kabinett Wine Bar and were super excited to try it after some great reviews. We were overall disappointed with our experience, primarily the subpar service. We did show up about 10 minutes late but called once we knew we wouldn’t make and they told us it was no issue, which it wasn’t and that is much appreciated. Our waitress was friendly and polite, she took our drink orders along with our appetizer and entree orders and our drinks and apps came out in a timely fashion. Once they came, we weren’t checked on at all which we didn’t really mind at first. Then we ran out of wine and water and it was as if we were completely forgotten about. We were at the high top directly across from the bar and kiosk, but our waitress continued to walk past us and would do scans but it was like she couldn’t see us. We attempted multiple times to make eye contact with her, and the man I assume was an owner/manager, but they didn’t stop over or look in our direction at all. 20 minutes later, a different waitress noticed and came by asking if she could help us and she was great- gave us recommendations and brought over 2 drinks but by this point we already had our entrees. We finished our entrees and sat for another 10 minutes when finally our original waitress came by and asked if she could get us anything. We said no, and she brought our check over along with the machine to pay. I told her we weren’t ready to pay, we wanted to finish our drinks. Finally, we put our card down and she came over 10 minutes later to close us out. We have no issue waiting for our food and having a “slower” experience, but I expect my drink to be full or at least to have water. For the prices they charge and saying they are an upscale/luxury experience, it fell short. 9/10 I don’t mind an auto gratuity, but I do think being guaranteed 20% takes away incentive for good service, which is the purpose of a tip.
Wine list was extensive and wine was great, would be awesome if they had some recommended pairings for the dishes since they are a wine bar.
We had the steak tartare, brussel sprouts, lobster ravioli and duck schnitzel. The first three dishes were good and the serving size was appropriate. We’ve seen pictures in reviews and on this page of the schnitzel and were excited, but it seems like maybe they ran out of the breading they usually use. It gave us country fried steak vibes- very thick and doughy. The duck was cooked as expected but the breading ruined the dish. It also didn’t have the aioli style sauce other photos have shown. Again, for a restaurant that claims to be so high end, they shouldn’t serve their dishes if they don’t have the ingredients or means for them to be close to perfect every time. Offer a different version of that protein instead of...
Read moreWe visited Kabinett for the second time recently for a couple glasses of wine and small plates to celebrate a late Valentine's day. Our first experience here last summer was wonderful where I had one of the most delicious dishes I can remember, the chicken pate. It came in a ramekin with toasted brioche and it was fantastic. We also had a lovely sardine appetizer that we were hoping was still on the menu when we returned. We sat at the bar and when asking for the pate was told that it had been replaced by the chicken toast, which, lucky us, was debuting this very night. We ordered that, the sardine toast and the hollumi. The chicken pate toast was perhaps the most visually unappealing food I have ever seen served at a restaurant. It was a piece of brioche topped with pate that was squeezed out in such a way that it literally looked like dogs droppings. While it tasted OK, the under toasted bread topped with the loose pate made for a soggy dish. The sardine toast was somewhat less appetizing with 4 little, mealy, sour fish each atop a piece of stale focaccia overloaded with oil. The hollumi was the best thing we ordered, but the tahini smeared on the plate tasted like fat on top of fat where some contrast would have helped. The restaurant is quite pretty and the wine list is extensive with lots of wine by the glass. But service to get drinks was very slow and by no means informative about the wines. We sat at the bar and unless you happened to be able to catch the server's eye as they casually stood nearby, you were not getting any drinks. That being said, everyone working there seemed very pleasant. We don't mind spending money on great food, any we usually do tip at least 20%, but the food wasn't great and the server while pleasant was not attentive and offered nothing extra for the wine experience. So the consumer now pays 20% on wine that is already marked up 300% over retail--it is mark-up, upon mark-up and there isn't any...
Read moreFinally a restaurant , outside a major city , that has focused on your experience! Upon entering the space, you’ll be excited to see the modern yet warm feeling of this space. They have done a phenomenal job with the selection of tableware, lighting and the layout. Right away you knew that these owners had taste and knowledge of inviting people into their “home” for something special. The service was done by Jason- incredible. It is so nice to have a passionate and knowledgeable server and that was evident from the start. He made our experience wonderful from beginning to end. How refreshing is that? He helped us navigate through the wine list and paid attention to all of the details of fine service. We ordered the caviar service and a cheese plate with a nice bottle of Clover Hill Tasmanian Brut Vintage 2018 and that was delicious! We then shared oysters, boquerones, fire roasted eggplant and potatoes . Dinners were Halibut, coulette steak, crab pasta and duck schnitzel. The plating and presentation was beautifully executed and my halibut was the best I ever had. Perfectly prepared and presented. Everyone was so happy with all of their choices. Two shared deserts, the dirt cup and peach and cream - devoured lol. The owner comped our desserts which was unexpected and so sweet. He came to our table and he was delightful to speak with and it really rounded out our whole experience. Honestly we walked out gleeful, thankful and it was a memory we will not forget! From the decor, the music, the table scape, the service , the food and the owner - book your tables now ! You’ll see and I forgot to mention the impressive wine list! These owners and staff are one in a million and if you are close or within driving distance - what are you waiting for? He pays his staff an hourly rate of $20 plus tips, healthcare and holiday pay? That’s unheard of and even more reasons to support them! Warms my heart. Thanks to all for an...
