July 2021 - Update Consistently delicious sandwiches! Had the tuna sandwich again and it was wonderful. Husband had his turkey sandwich. This time my Dad joined us for our road trip to Mount Rainier and he had the Day's Special: spicy BBQ chicken. His only wish was that there were more veggies like lettuce and/or cucumbers. I do believe he could've requested extras at no additional cost. We also ordered a strawberry and cream filled scone which we later ate in Rainier along with a latte we bought along the way. Delicious!
July 2020 This place hit the spot for our lunch break en route to Mount Rainier from Cheney. Nice clean store. Friendly service. Fresh ingredients.
Their sandwiches were light, but filling. The mayo in the tuna sandwich was the perfect meat to mayo ratio - not drenched and sopping, but also not dry. We also split a salad which if we had ordered as en entree wouldn't have been sufficient for us, but as a side salad to compliment our sandwiches it was great.
We also bought their ranch dressing mix and we've been loving it at home. I wish I had bought TWO to last me through the end of the year. I didn't follow their recipe on the box. I do 2 parts mayo, 1 part sour cream, and add just enough milk to make it not too thick and not too runny. I add about a tablespoon and a half of their ranch mix, but go based on taste instead of exact...
Read moreThe food is good, when they actually have what you want, but the girls aren't the friendliest.... Every single time we have come here they are always out of white bread no matter how early we get there. The sandwiches are a bit expensive for what they are. I always get a ham sandwich with all of the veggies, and the girl always looks at me like I'm insane when I ask for extra pickles and peppers. She will usually put just one more on. Okay then. The stuff they have in the shop part, all the candy, etc. is always pretty good, just expensive compared to buying it anywhere else. My husband usually gets whatever the special sandwich is and always likes it, but we are always hesitant to stop here because you just never know what they are out of, and it's always expensive. Don't even think about asking them to make a kids sandwich, no matter how small they make it, it's the same price as an...
Read moreThe Daily Bread and Mercantile is great! They make pretty much everything in their store themselves. The bread for your sandwich, the dessert for after, all hand made by them. Their food is delicious, it's one of my favorite places to go for lunch. The reason I can't give it five stars is the environment. The Daily Bread and Mercantile is owned and operated by a group of German Baptists who make it very clear in their restaurant and store with Bible quotes on their menu and things like that. To me, and I admit it's a little ridiculous, but it makes me slightly uncomfortable as I haven't had a lot of great experiences with the religious type... There are lots of older customers who seem to look down on me when I'm there. If you don't mind that though, don't miss out on The Daily Bread...
