Every restaurant has their own specialties. Some places have better pizza. Some better pasta dishes. Some specialize in pastry. Gallo seems to check all the boxes without compromising the flavor or soul of any of them!
The service was excellent. The gentleman waiting on us was fantastic at checking in, being personable and honest about the food, and quick to bounce between customers and the busy call lines.
We kept it simple. Came in to try for the first time as a little celebration, right when they opened for lunch. Ordered a cherry Italian soda with all the frills, some calamari, some garlic cheese bread, and a plate of chicken alfredo to share.
Just saying now, the tomato sauce base used here is a homemade blend, and big home-canned mason jars of the stuff can be seen being sold at the bakery display. It's not quite like other tomato sauces with an intense acidic kick (which, I will admit, is great when highlighted nicely). It was sweeter, highlighting the fruitiness of the tomatoes and tasted a bit fresher as compared to, say, a long-cook sauce with tomato pastes. It was a refreshing change of pace from other ubiquitous Italian American food in the area, and a highlight of the regional variance we'd expect from the Sicilian head chef and his family.
The calamari was crunchy and fresh, the ciabatta of the garlic cheese bread was oh so soft, and the alfredo was perfectly balanced. Not too heavy, with none of the extra thickness that a lot of American sauces tend to have. Also not too loose, and perfectly coating the perfectly tender fettuccine.
The bakery though... Coming in before noon showed us the trays of freshly prepared treats being shuttled from back to front of house. We had to grab plenty to go... And then circle back again to grab more cookies a few minutes later.
The head chef, the absolute sweetest man, went above and beyond for a request I had for some cannolis to go... A subtle cinnamon note to the cream made these cannolis to remember. Certainly the best in Colorado by far. And the vanilla lobster tails.... that was probably one of, if not the best lobster tail I've had in my life.
One last note... The chef loves playing with new specials and new desserts. Rotating limited treats and seasonal bites. Makes it even more enticing hearing from the waiter what the chef has done in just the past few months...
We will definitely be coming back, and making this our go-to Italian restaurant. For the food, for the staff, and for the love of the craft felt in each...
Read moreI had the Caesar salad, chicken parmesan, and tiramisu. They have a nice selection of beer on tap, I had the IPA, had some weird black stuff like plastic or something on the rim of the glass though but I didn’t mind drinking from the other side. The Caesar lettuce was a bit wilted, wasn’t the best as I like big juicy pieces of fresh lettuce, but at least it had good croutons, Parmesan, and dressing. The chicken parm was pretty good, I liked the sauce and it came with a paccheri or rigatoni type of noodle. I think I would have preferred a spaghetti noodle or something that I could really dig into and distribute the sauce on as the big pasta noodles were kind of light and more sauce than noodle. Garlic bread was pretty good to eat the chicken on though and helped fill me up. I felt the chicken breading was little soggy, I’ve come to prefer a crispier chicken parm and this one was buried under cheese and sauce, but the flavor was still good. Portion was decent for lunch but a little smaller than you’d expect for Italian, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you want to save room for dessert. I had some trouble cutting everything as the knife I got was duller than a butter knife. I also felt the napkins looked a little dirty and there was some sauce on the table from a previous guest. Nothing terribly disgusting, but could have been better. For the dessert I had the tiramisu which unfortunately was frozen (they did let me know this beforehand so not their fault) so I don’t know that all of the flavors came out, but it was still pretty good, definitely tasted home made. Price was pretty fair. Overall, this was a pretty good experience marred by a few missed minor details. I don’t know that I would go out of my way to go back if looking for a nice Italian dinner out, but I would definitely give them another try if I find myself in downtown Englewood craving Italian...

We met Gaspare completely by chance on a Friday night, and what followed was one of the most memorable and heartwarming experiences we’ve ever had. After a fun evening playing shuffleboard at the Englewood Grand, a few of us were ready to call it a night when our friend mentioned he smelled something amazing in the parking lot earlier—pizza. We wandered over to Gallo around 10 PM, only to find it was already closed.
Just as we were about to head out, a kind man named Gaspare approached us with a warm smile and asked if we wanted a cookie. Turns out, he’s the owner, and even though the restaurant had been closed for over an hour, he invited us in with genuine hospitality. What started with a cookie quickly turned into a full-on pastry adventure. He served us an incredible treat called the “lobster tale” and generously let us sample more delicious creations, including his house-made limoncello.
The moment we stepped inside, we were stunned. It’s absolutely beautiful, elegant, and inviting, and nothing like we expected from the outside. Gaspare made us feel like old friends, and we ended up laughing, chatting, and immediately booking a table for the next night.
When we returned for dinner on Saturday at 7 PM, we were blown away. Every dish was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, the service was impeccable, and the entire experience just radiated warmth. We even got to meet his lovely daughter, who seated us at our table.
This place is a gem, hidden in plain sight and made extraordinary by the heart behind it. Gaspare, thank you from the bottom of all our hearts. You created a moment we’ll never forget. Everyone must try this restaurant. The food is fantastic, the desserts are next-level, and the kindness is absolutely unmatched.
