I am writing to express my concern regarding an incident that occurred at this cafe involving a disabled individual and her service dog. It is disheartening to report that the cafe denied access to both the handler and her service dog, despite the dog being a professionally trained service animal from an Assistance Dogs International (ADI) accredited program. (Not that this is required)
This experience highlights a serious issue of discrimination against individuals with disabilities, particularly those who rely on service dogs for assistance. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), individuals with service dogs are entitled to access public accommodations, and the refusal to allow this disabled individual and her service dog entry is not only unjust but also illegal.
Moreover, the staff's unwillingness to engage in a polite dialogue about the rights of service dog handlers is concerning. Education and understanding are crucial in fostering an inclusive environment, and it is disappointing that this cafe chose to ignore that responsibility.
The fact that this interaction was filmed underscores the importance of accountability in such situations. I urge potential customers to consider supporting businesses that prioritize inclusivity and respect for all individuals, regardless of their abilities. Discrimination in any form is unacceptable, and we should collectively advocate for a community where everyone feels welcome and valued.
I cannot recommend this cafe until they demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and compliance with the ADA. It is vital for businesses to educate their staff and create an environment that respects the rights of individuals with...
Read moreReasonably quiet, clean, and somewhat comfortable; wooden slat booths not good. Staff very friendly and efficient. BUT, overall food prep and quality very poor. A specialty entree (we selected) of roast beef, gravy, and mashed potatoes came out not even luke warm and tasted awful (green beans were canned and unappealing). We refused the entree and sent it back; re-ordered a patty melt sandwich. The re-order was just warm and not hot and onions were chopped pieces not carmelized. Our other entree was a country fried steak sandwich with chips; we substituted the chips with French fries costing $2.95 for just a mere handful. The fried steak was quite larger than bun - but was overdone and too crunchy; the tomato was too small and not fresh. The kitchen staff is obviously not qualified to prepare, cook, and present quality food. The food products overall were sub-par at best; freshness and taste were non-exsistent. If the ownership will greatly improve the kitchen staff and food products selection - this restaurant could be quite good. Our total tab with tip was $38 - a bit high for two sandwiches with fries,...
