Bonkers Cupcakes — Restaurant in Fairfield

Atmosphere really not great, that new landlord grey flooring, and the paper signs were suggesting a lower quality product than I was met with. Excellent service, Marquise was very accommodating and seemingly honest in his recommendations. I had a chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream. Now, I went to school for baking and pastry, the cake I like to make for myself is a fluffy, moist, chocolate cake with vanilla Swiss meringue butter cream. This cupcake tasted almost exactly like mine, slightly different cake texture and not as moist as mine, but absolutely a serviceable cupcake. No waxy frosting, overly sweet, solid butter cream here, because they frost to order, so that butter cream is room temp - perfect fresh texture. I just cannot express, as a particular person, how this is just not an experience I have ever had outside my own home, aside from the bakery I used to work at over a decade ago (The dessert plate in Somerville NJ, RIP) the interior is not it, but boy, they are doing cupcakes the right way, in a world where they are...

Last night we tried Bonkers Cupcakes. I had passed this store many times and always wanted to try. We ordered the banana pudding, vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting and chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting and a butterscotch oatmeal cookie. The banana pudding was delicious! Plenty of cookie inside and Delicious fluffy pudding. The cookie was yummy too. The cupcakes, which they are known for, or less than average. I do have to say the chocolate cake was delicious, but on both cupcakes, we could barely taste the frosting. They were waxy and flavorless. And I found a long hair in the middle of my frosting which made me gag. Not sure if I would try again. The last part grossed me...

Without a doubt the best cupcakes I have ever had! The cake is a perfect combination of flavor and moistness, not too sweet and not caky. We tried the vanilla, chocolate and carrot cake and they were all delicious. A great choice of frostings- my daughter loved the strawberry, husband loved the carmel drizzled, and I had the chocolate vegan- all blended perfectly with cupcakes! Was very pleasantly surprised how yummy the vegan tasted. Definitely worth the trip! Bonkers is a gem...
