First off, ask for Lindsey! My husband and I just moved to Fishers today, we didn't feel like cooking so we decided to go out to eat. We chose Wild Ginger because a family friend had recommended we try their Crab Rangoon Roll. The atmosphere is quaint, quiet, yet sophisticated in a way. The service was superb and Lindsey knew exactly what we should try as first time customers. We started out with an order of Calpico Mango Yogurt Juice (typically served in a bottle alongside a glass of ice, but Lindsey poured it into a wine glass with ice for us), and an appetizer of Steamed Shumai Dumpling - Combonation. The drink isn't thick like yogurt, but thin like juice typically is. It does, however, have a slight yogurt aftertaste. The dumplings were superb and full of flavor, you could really tell the difference in each dumpling. My husband ordered the Dinner Combo #3 and I ordered Dinner Combo #4, we got them and the way they were presented was astonishing (see attached photo)! The difference between 3 and 4 is whether you want chicken or salmon. The chicken was a little dry, but the salmon was delicious!!! A slight smokey flavor. Each dinner combo comes with a salad and a miso soup. The dressing on the salad is mesmorizing. Lindsey said people would drink the dressing by itself, and I see why! The miso soup was light but flavorful. The rest of the dish of the dinner combos are: tempura vegetables, a spring roll, a potato cake, a bowl of rice, and your choice of a 6 piece california roll, 3 piece of chef choice nigiri, or 3 piece chef choice sashimi. Let's go in the order I have them listed. The tempura veggies were Carrot, Sweet Potato, Asparagus, Squash, and Shrimp (I know, not a veggie). They also came with a bowl of tempura sauce. My husband hates carrots and sweet potatoes, but he loved these in tempura form. Next, the spring roll! Although tiny, it was about 1.5 inches long, it was jam packed with flavor. It was the best spring roll I have ever had. The potato cake. Oh my gosh, this masterpiece of fried potato with some veggies in it about made me cry. I would just eat those and be satisfied. The rice was perfectly done, not stiff from undercooking, and stuck together well enough to eat with chopsticks! Now, my husband got the 6 piece california roll, and I got the 3 piece nigiri. We opted out of getting the shashimi this time. The california roll was so fresh! The avacado was perfectly ripened, you could just taste the seaweed, the rice was perfect just like the bowl of rice. My nigiri tonight was tuna, salmon, and white fish. The tuna just fell apart in your mouth, the salmon was marbled beautifully and tasted like I just caught it out of a stream (it made my husband cry and he is huge about good salmon), and finally the white fish...this was my first time having it and just like the tuna it fell apart in my mouth! Now, we didn't order the Crab Rangoon Roll tonight, but we got their "oh so popular" Mistake Roll, but Lindsey added the sauce from the Crab Rangoon Roll. This roll is heavy but full of flavor! Each piece just as flavorful as the last I just wanted to keep eating it. All-in-all, this was a perfect meal to have on our first night in a new town, and we WILL be returning!
Best part, we left feeling like we may have eaten a little too much, and a check just shy of $65 was well...
Read more$$ to $$$. Go to a Chinese-owned sushi buffet and you'll be much happier and enjoy the same or better quality sushi and sashimi for much less money. That said, Wild Ginger was an absolutely horrible sushi eating experience in every aspect. The meal did have a high point, when we were able to leave Wild Ginger without requiring the assistance from paramedics or a coroner. Under no circumstance would I ever return to this restaurant.
The service was just lousy! We received no greeting upon entry, our waitress had total unfamiliarity with the rather large menu, worst of all our waitress slammed dishes down including when placing the sushi on our table and when clearing tables and complete carelessness and total lack of attention to detail. The atmosphere of the place was just odd, and certainly uncomfortable and unwelcoming with no music being played. The service was extremely slow (One waitress was on duty for the entire restaurant during our weekend visit, until just before we were finished with our meal two more waitresses came on duty. Shockingly, the manager nor any of the four people making sushi even considered helping out on the floor. Instead they just watched and cracked jokes to each other while our waitress served nine tables by herself.)
The salad was carelessly prepared, all the vegetables were not cleanly cut and sticking together, but the dressing was decent. The miso soup was served luke warm and was a tiny little bowl, about a third of the size I receive while at other restaurants. The tempura was unfamiliar, as the batter was way too thick, something I've never experienced in Japan or at any Japanese restaurant anywhere in the world. The tempura dipping sauce tasted not quite right, and had no grated daikon, which was a first for me as well. The SUSHI AND SASHIMI WAS SERVED LUKE WARM!!! In fact, only the unagi (eel) was properly served warm by having been heated. All the other fish and egg sushi and sashimi items were served luke warm. It made eating them challenging, to be fair, without gagging or vomiting, considering the potential for massive amounts of bacteria being formed from improper storage of perishable food items and the notion of HEALTH CODE VIOLATION flashing in my mind throughout the meal. I looked over at the sushi table and they weren't using a standard Hoshizaki refrigerated sushi display and preparation table, but instead some cheap knockoff that was UNREFRIGERATED and had NO ICE to cool the fish used in both the sushi and sashimi items to confirm my suspicion. But even more shocking was all the fish was sitting in front of the unrefrigerated preparation table at room temperature, for at least the 90 minutes I was in...
Read moreWe arrived on a Monday in June around 5:30 PM. We were greeted immediately and taken to a table. There were a few other tables that had guests. The interior is airy and inviting. The noise level was low, and the table spacing was reasonable. Our waitress arrived in a timely manner to take our order. The wine list is decent enough with fair prices. We ordered a bottle of Klinker Brick Zinfandel to share. We didn’t finish it, and they were kind enough to cork the bottle with a rubber wine stopper for us to take home. For filling our bellies, we ordered the Steamed Shumai Dumplings Combination, a Tiger Roll, a Dragon Roll, and the Ramen with pork. The Dumplings didn’t have much flavor but they were ok. My husband needed a sushi fix, and the rolls did the job. BTW – they have a lot of sushi rolls to choice from. This was my first time eating Ramen. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed. The pork was tasteless, and the broth was weak. I expected an explosion of flavor but that wasn’t the case. It was mostly noodles which I guess is typical? Definitely did not float my boat but that’s just me. Overall, it was a good experience with solid service and tasty rolls. We would visit again when...
