"Let me know if you have any questions," the disembodied voice crackled through the drive through speakers. "Good lord I have so many questions," I thought to myself as I looked around the bank-turned-seafood restaurant in Flagstaff, AZ. Shifting my gaze from the still operational drive through ATM to the lighted menu board, my jaw hit the floor. A lobster roll for $9.99? In 2025? In a landlocked state? How is any of this possible? Am I dreaming? Am I in heaven? Or is this what hell is? There was only one way to find out. "I'll take the number 5. Hot, not chilled please." "We'll have your total at the window."
The bag was warm in my lap; like a warm bag resting in my lap. It reminded me of a bag that contained something not cold, but something warm. A bag that wasn't placed haphazardly on the passenger seat but rather, placed on my lap where I could feel its warmth.
I couldn't wait any longer. I had to know the truth. I reached in and pulled out the lobster roll. It was beautiful. Unlike any $9.99 fast food lobster roll I'd ever seen- glistening with butter in the soft glow of the desert sun. I took a bite. Wow. Succulent lobster on a perfectly toasted roll. The butter was buttery; like butter. I found myself transported to the rocky coasts of Maine. I lived a lifetime as a humble fisherman. I raised a family. The years passed in the steady rhythm of the tide. I knew Elizabeth needed me at home. But alas, I belonged to the sea. And the sea, though a fickle lover she was, welcomed me with open arms into the moisture of her wet depths.
"It's all been worth it," I said aloud, the bag now cold in my lap. Tears streamed down my cheeks like sweat, but from my eyes. She may have gotten the house, the car, the money, the boat, the kids. But she could never take this from me. I cursed Angie's for not giving me more napkins as I wiped bead after bead of eye sweat from my face.
The moon was coming up over Elden Mountain and I knew it was time to go. I knew what I had to do. I grabbed the revolver from the middle console and disappeared into the black night of the...
Read moreWe went to the window because the line of cars was 6 deep when we arrived. We were made to place our order for two chilled items via a QR code, rather than talking to anybody at the window. The online receipt said 10 minutes, and our order would be out. We watched as car after car was served, but nobody was being served at the window. (We were third in line.) 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes pass by and finally one group gets their order. The group ahead of us asked about theirs, as we watch more and more cars being served. The response at the window was, “The order will be up in just a second.”25 minutes, 30 minutes, then 35 minutes passes by and the party ahead of us gets their order and confirms that cars are being given priority over those who ordered online (remember that we are not allowed to order at the window). By this point, I ring the bell at the window to cancel our order because we had tickets to an event. After another “…just a second…” response, somebody finally gets to our order. Because it was so late, we had to eat while driving, which meant we could not try the sauces because of the mess of eating in the car. The food might have been ok, but not worth the wait for chilled lobster on room temp bread with no sauce.
I would not recommend going here, unless you don’t have any plans for the rest of the night, and you don’t mind being completely ignored. After 20 minutes, we started alerting others coming to the window about the wait time. I’m glad I did, as most of those people went...
Read moreUpdated review from my early statements. Since trying different things, I have found that my favorite favorite item was the warm crab. Sadly, it is no longer available. The cold crab sandwich is okay, but it's not nearly as succulent as the warm crab. In either case, the crab roll is my first go-to item. My first two visits were a little disappointing, but the crab roll has been consumed by me numerous times! My fav.
this was my first opportunity to order at Angie's lobster Flagstaff for lunch. I had the cold lobster roll which was unremarkable. It was pieces of claw meat which basically was/were tasteless. I did have high expectations. I will try it again. But so far it's just the novelty based on my experience.
Okay, trial number two. My husband was really envious of my lobster roll experience so we returned to purchase a fried lobster tail meal. This included a drink and fries as well as the bun that is used in the lobster roll. There were three pieces of lobster that were over battered over seasoned and over fried. Not such a good first impression on either menu item. Although the lobster strips were adequately sized, they were overwhelmed by the batter. (Sigh) I really want this place to be successful. I think it will serve a niche market that is not available anywhere else in northern Arizona. I will give it another try, but my youthful enthusiasm has been wounded. Angie's lobster get it together so you have...
