One of our favorite restaurants, but their wait staff lately needs to be trained better. This was the second time weve had wait staff issues since Christmas.
Our waiter had only been there 2 weeks and apparently had never worked at a restaurant before. I always order water with lime - especially easy to comply with a Mexican restaurants - but this guy (and our waitress last time) both said they didn't know where the limes were kept. I had to tell BOTH of them, go to your bartender. Geez.
So apparently no one taught our waiter about how to handle complaints. My daughter ordered a ground beef chimichanga it came out as pulled beef. Our waiter LATER admitted he put the order in wrong, but he first blamed the kitchen, then when we asked for the correct one, he said the kitchen wouldn't do it and asked if we wanted to keep the wrong one - or talk to the manager. Basically he was afraid to tell anyone about his mess up. The manager eventually cleared it up. So next issue, the waiter brought the check, but didn't leave it in the folder. He asked for my card and didn't give me time to read the check before he snatched my card and walked off. When he brought it back, still no folder, he'd had the papers shoved in his back pocket with my card. However, he did not give me the check back, he gave me the cc printouts - one to sign, one to keep. Then the big faux pas - he waited for me to fill it out and sign, then picked it up to stand there and read it right then, blocking us from getting up from the table.
I tipped fine, but I own a restaurant. You just don't do that in front of customers. And when I asked why the check wasn't presented in the folder, which he had IN HIS HAND, he said he'd been told it was for keeping up with his tickets!! It was full of receipts that he should have been keeping in his apron pocket. I give this guy another week unless they give him some...
Read moreI placed an order last Sunday to go and it was pretty bad but it was close to closing around 7:30 the portion was very small and the food was dry and hard so I took a picture and went back this past Thursday to speak with the manager I wish I had gotten his name because he was one of the most AWESOME managers or possibly owner I have ever dealt with and I am 57 years old he was very polite and apologized and you just knew he truly meant it! Then he went into the kitchen and made sure that another order was prepared to perfection at no cost. Now to be fair the dine in experience is amazing, food is great, it comes to the table hot and the portions are worth the price. We sat at the bar waiting for the order to be completed and that in and of itself was an amazing experience! Noelle the bartender treated us like family and truly made us feel welcome! This restaurant is the cleanest, prettiest and classiest restaurant I have seen in Alabama, definitely in the Shoals Area! I give you my word if the chefs would take as much pride on a daily basis as do the rest of the employees La Trojas could become a Michelin Star Restaurant, they have the talent they just need to take pride in every dish they put out weather it is dine in or carry out keep the same standards. Thank you La Trojas for touching on all 5 of our senses. This is very rare in today’s world. Danny and...
Read moreHave had good and bad experiences at Las Trojas. First the good. The food has alway been good and the portions huge. I feel it is a good value for the price. The bad? First, on about my third visit, an insect flew into my food. I was just about finished anyway (huge portion), so I just stopped. The food did not arrive infested with insects, but still there must have been others flying around. I've been back since, but another time my wife and I went to Las Trojas there was a karaoke dj playing the music way too loudly. We literally could not hear each other from across the table. We decided to go elsewhere. Finally, the last time we visited, we were seated at a time when they didn't appear to be busy. The same girl who seated us came back a couple of minutes later and said she would be our server as well, because they had just had a server quit over a scheduling issue. She was very nice and friendly, but she could not find the sweet tea and brought unsweetened a couple of times. Finally, another server helped her out and everything went...
