Where do I began! We had previously wanted to try a different breakfast restaurant, but upon reading the reviews here, we decided to try it. Big MISTAKE. I watched the expeditor "expo", the person that finalizes the food prior to it leaving the kitchen, was not wearing ANY gloves. I watched her microwave biscuits and pick them up with her bare hands and put it on plates, along with various other food items, without washing hands or wearing gloves. Then she would use a sharpie, then back to handing food without a glove, along with handling trays to bring the food to the tables. Cross contamination at its finest. Not to mention if someone had a small cut on their hand their hand and touched your food. I also witnessed some of the servers doing this. At no time did i ever see anyone washing their hands. They were touching menus, money, pens, dirty plates, dirty silverware, and THEN YOUR FOOD with their bare hands. After I addressed this with our server the entire staff stared us down. One server snarled at me. Every time someone walked out of the kitchen they stared at our table with a look. Completely unprofessional. Hear me when I say this. I KNOW things go on in kitchens. I am a chef myself, while I would never tolerate this from staff, I do understand things go on BUT when you blatantly are doing it with doors open and then get mad because I say something about it and in return you cause an awful dining experience for myself and my family, the whole experience is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. First the nongloves should have never happened, but then to stare us down to try and intimidate us is ridiculous. I sure hope this establishment makes changes.
To respond to your review. I am an actual chef. We weren't rude to your staff at all. I kindly told our server that the expo should be wearing gloves and that we have seen her taking biscuits out of the microwave numerous times without washing her hands. She didn't leave her position to wash her hands. My kids were Not staring your staff down. It was the complete opposite. Do you expect people to close their eyes and eat at your establishment? Also I didn't have to strain one bit to see Inside your kitchen. We were literally sat in birds eye view of it. We were respectful while we were there and respectful when telling our server. YOUR staff is the one that was being rude as soon as it was brought to their attention. And as a business owner you should know better. If your staff is versed in servsafe certification you should all know better. Shame on you for trying to blame me for your lack of accountability and safe sanitary practices. Because I am a chef I am extremely passionate and protective over the business because it is my livelihood. So when I see someone that isn't following procedure to protect patrons, it doesn't sit well with me. You are more worried about protecting your staff than your patrons. I understand there is a loyalty to your staff, but the health of your customers should never be put at risk due to you and your staff not following proper protocol that has been put in place for all food establishments. This entire post could have been avoided if you and your staff followed and practiced proper guidelines that are required. Furthermore an apology goes a long way. You could have approached this differently or better yet, you could have come to our table and addressed this with us and apologized. But this isn't new for y'all. I can see with you trying to put blame on me that it is normal for your staff to not wear gloves and touch ready to eat food. Touching dirty plates and then a biscuit to plate for someone's meal. We have zero intentions of ever coming back to your establishment....
Read moreI get that we went on a busy Saturday morning but that doesn't negate that a restaurant should still provide great service and food.
First off, there's limited parking on a gravel lot. Also it's located steps away from a strip club. The restaurant looks old and needs some updates and remodeling. It was clean. I took my little girl to the bathroom and there was only 2 stalls and a baby changer. The bathroom was so cramped that we couldn't pass by the lady who was changing her baby until she was done and you can literally run into someone using that changer as you enter the bathroom. There was like a margarita bar that was lackluster in its presentation. The dining area was a fairly decent side and it had a bar.
Service - we were greeted and seated by a hostess and then our server came. She was really nice and prompt. However, the food wasn't. It took over 45 minutes to get our food. And after that long wait the food wasn't even good. I got the bacon skillet -which consisted of potatoes, mushrooms, peppers, onions, bacon, eggs and cheese. The food looked and tasted dry. The bacon was overcooked and hard to chew. The potatoes were decent. A small, nearly non-existent scattering of already melted and hardened cheese. No stingy, gooey cheese as you ate this dish. The best part was the eggs which I can tell was the only part of the dish that was made fresh. Everything else felt like it was just sitting under a warmer. Underneath the eggs was a heap of chopped onions just sitting on top of the potatoes not mixed into the dish and tiny pieces of mushrooms. It was bad. I expected since the menu kind of hinted at a Southwestern dining experience that the skillet would have some sauce or something with a little kick to it.
The girls got French toast which was done grilled looking bread with powdered sugar sprinkled on top, nothing special.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend or return. Would definitely venture to...
Read moreAfter a long early-morning drive into town with a hungry family in tow, we decided to try “Asiago’s Skillet” expecting at least a comforting, satisfying breakfast. You know how it is — when you’re that hungry, even average food can taste amazing. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of those cases.
My wife and I ordered what we thought would be a simple, no-fail breakfast: pancakes with sausage, eggs, and a fruit cup on the side. To their credit, the pancakes were massive — though a heads-up from the server would’ve been nice, especially since we were trying to gauge whether our picky kids might want their own plates. Instead, we had them taste ours first before committing, which turned out to be the right call — they weren’t impressed, and neither were we.
The food? Decidedly mid. The pancakes were just okay — not memorable in flavor or fluff — and the rest of the plate didn’t do much to elevate the experience. We waited quite a while for our food, which was made even more noticeable when two other tables seated after us received their large orders before ours hit the table. Odd, but we gave it the benefit of the doubt.
Once our plates arrived, we realized our eggs were missing. We waited a few minutes assuming they’d catch the mistake, but nothing came. When I finally asked, the waitress admitted they completely forgot. The eggs did eventually come, but by then the meal had lost its rhythm.
Then came the check. Let’s just say, for the price, I expected something… more. More flavor, more care, more value. For two basic breakfast plates, it felt steep — especially considering the underwhelming food the waitress was nice and polite but with service missteps.
Bottom line? Asiago’s Skillet didn’t live up to the anticipation or the price tag. It might hit the mark for some, but for our hungry crew, it missed...
