I have never before written a bad google review, but thereās a first time for everything. My friend, her children and I stopped my the shop to grab some ice cream. I have Celiac Disease so no matter where I go my options are limited if even existing. Thatās ok, I know that. But do tend to ask if there are any Gluten Free options, because you know asking never hurts. The lady and the counter Aubrey? Audrey? When I ask looked at me first like I was speaking a different language, and said she had no idea what that was. ok I get that Celiac Disease kinda uncommon. So I ask if she has any gluten free ice creams thatās didnāt contain wheat.. (barley and rye are very rarely and ice cream). She raised her eyebrows saying she didnāt know what I was talking about asked if I was asking about dairy. I said no, not allergic to dairy but that I had an autoimmune disorder. At this point I had already decided oh well she doesnāt know, no ice cream for me. Again I was disappointed but hey thatās life.
It was her demeanor though, was she looked at me and very impatiently and with an inflection like a was stupid asked abruptly āwell what else did you need or can I move on.ā I awkwardly let her know I was good and then the two men behind me in line proceeded to apologize for how rude she seemed, and how odd she didnāt know allergy information for the food she was selling.
Listen I know, my autoimmune disorder is on me, I know options are limited or nonexistent. But I do believe that if you work in food distribution or services, (as someone whoās father owns a restaurant) you should be trained in allergy I formation. But the attitude and demeanor were hurtful and not appropriated. Being impatient and answering genuine questions with such condescending tones are not professional.
I absolutely hate writing this but I feel like it could be a trainable moment. What would be the response if it had been a peanut or dairy allergy? And the fact that not only my friend, her children, but the people in line behind us picked up on the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot really expecting a reply as I see that the lower ratings on here do not get one. My husband and I walked into the shop without being greeted. I decided to order a sundae. The girl was waiting on another man making a shake for him. I saw that she walked him over to another register to have him pay for his shake instead of the register by the ice cream counter. Even though we were next, the other girl waited on the customer behind us. Then the first girl came over and took my order - chocolate fudge sundae. When we went to go pay for it, the other girl said you ordered a shake? I told her no, it was a sundae that I ordered along with a water and a coke. I told them that the other guy ordered the shake and that the girl rang him up at the other register. After my husband paid, I told him to get a copy of the receipt. They overcharged us by $11 charging us for the other guy's shake which was paid for at the other register. When we asked for a credit, all three girls looked at us like we were the ones ripping them off and NEVER apologized. After leaving, I told my husband that either they don't know what they are doing or they were ripping off the customers by ringing up the shake at one register and taking money from the other customer at the other register and charging us for it thinking we would not notice. I can't say that is what they were doing or not. However, it seemed odd to me that they all looked at us like we were totally crazy for asking to be credited for a shake that we did not order. I am a local and have lived in the area since the 60's. It was pretty upsetting to be receiving this kind...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe love the ice cream at Kilwins. This location is in the Destin Commons shopping center next to the AMC theater and Starbucks.
This location normally stocks the Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream manufactured by Kilwins. It is not available at all locations. It is a type of chocolate chip ice cream. The company apparently uses fudge from Mackinac Island, Michigan. The chocolate flavor of the chips is perfect for any taste buds.
Their ice cream is always very smooth and creamy. I scoop of the Island Fudge is about 360 calories but if one is going to splurge on calories, go for the best ice cream available.
The one disappointment at this location: they do not stock the dolce de leche flavorāanother favorite. I last had this as a Kilwin's in Jacksonville, Florida so I may have to wait until I get back there to...
