This bookstore has a very cool manga section, and a nice large selection of various books and book related toys etc. All in all, it's a great bookstore; however, they lied to me multiple times and signed me up for a magazine subscription before I even realized what was going on. I finish paying with contactless payment and then she just started asking me my name and address and whatnot. I figured she was signing me up for their loyalty club, a bit annoying but why not, however then she asked me what magazines I wanted for free and handed me a paper, I said "I don't really like magazines, but I like time and Nat Geo" in a questioning sort of way and then she said, pick one more magazine. I figured it was a sales pitch to try to get me to sign up for magazines and said entertainment. She then started talking about how I'll be receiving an email with more information and they should arrive soon. I don't understand what's going on and start to ask her about it, and she says that they already have my billing information because of how I paid in store, which I never once consented to. And then she tells me how to cancel it which I appreciate; however, I come find out that they will charge you anyway if you don't cancel your subscription so it was never two free months of magazines in the first place. They never sent me an email like she said they would. It was supposed to make it super easy to cancel, but I never got it. There were so many shady sales tactics going on here to get me to sign up for this stupid magazine subscription that lies about the prices of the magazines to then charge you more than what they say they will. I will never be coming back and I will be advising all of my friends and associates to never shop at a Books-A-Million...
Read moreWe’re from out of state visiting and typically we go to this location every single year we visit. This trip was awful though, we noticed the staff was assuming we were going to steal by talking about it on the walkies and then I heard them talking about the other half of my family sitting down in the cafe. Prior to this they asked if we needed help three times and another associate walked by us continuously. Then I asked an associate if they had an item in stock and she didn’t once say hi, sure, or speak for anything. She acted like I basically ruined her life and asked her to do the impossible. She held out her hand so I can hand her the book rather than asking me like a normal person if she can see it. Did not once say sure I will help or sorry. If she did not want to help me then she could have asked another associate to help rather than making me deal with her bad attitude. Didn’t even offer to see if there was another store that had the item in stock. We left and came back for a second time and then here come the walkies again. From someone who works loss prevention, if you know, you’ll know. Awful experience I do not know when it became so...
Read moreI never write reviews, but this was such a horrible check out experience that I couldn’t ignore it. Cashier, Jessica, asks me if I wanted to sign up for a rewards card, sure that’s fine. Those are generally free right? Not at Books-A-Million...a $25 charge adds to my bill. I told her I wasn’t paying for a “rewards card” and that she could take that off. Then she wants to send me 3 free magazines, ok that’s fine...what could that hurt? They fail to tell you that they are storing your card information as you speak from where you swiped to pay. Good thing my eyes went straight to the fine print on the flyer she handed me. I told her she could remove that too, her whole attitude went sour and she was like “you can cancel it in 3 months...they will send you a reminder”. Ok, I don’t want/need something else to keep up with. It’s not free if you are storing my card information, nor do I want you to store my card info. I will NOT shop at Books-A-Million again. I will go to Barnes & Noble...that way I know I won’t get scammed trying to buy a freaking book. I suggest you...
