Johnny Rockets DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS NASTY PLACE. My friend and I visited Destin Commons today and we had planned to have lunch at Johnny Rockets since my friend was familiar with the brand. I am a self proclaimed Chef and I visit many restaurants in our area and give honest reviews. We arrived at the establishment and was greeted and seated very quickly by a friendly male server. We were seated at a booth next to a window. The waiter promptly brought us a menu and stated he would return in a few minutes. While my guest and I made our choices from the menu, I noticed the table was not clean. It had what appeared to be dried catsup stuck to the table. The white wall partition behind my guest who was seated across the table from me, had splatters of what appeared to be catsup. As I looked at the large glass windows, I noticed that the windows were filthy, from greasy hand prints and smears that appeared to be from someones sneezing. The window blinds were fully raised to the top so I couldn't actually see them completely. However the bottoms of the blinds were corroded. The wall behind me was greasy as well and also appeared to have snot smeared on them as well as food. The waiter returned and he was very proficient and attentive. He took our drink order and the drinks were served promptly. However, he had to apologize for the drinks being served in to-go cups because they didn't have any glassware available at the time. The restaurant was not very busy and many of the booths and seats were empty. The waiter took our meal order and then I decided I needed to go to the restroom. As I entered the men's room, I heard noises from the one stall, so i decided just to use the urinal. Well there was a black trash bag taped over the urinal with a sign that said out of order. So I decided to exit the restroom and wait till it was empty. On the way out, I noticed what appeared to be a male person who was in charge of the place, entered and I never saw him come out. So I went back to my seat, and continued to wait for the food. As we were waiting, my guest also noticed how dirty and unclean this place was. I also noticed torn seats in booths, torn seats in the straight chairs that were place along the walls. The straight chairs also looked like that they had never been cleaned since they were new. The chrome legs of these chairs were blackened from the floor up to over half way on each and every leg. This place was just nasty. The waiter presented us with our order in a timely manor. The food was hot, tasty and I was actually surprised at how well it tasted. I begin to observe the kitchen staff and cooking area to my right. I had a clear view of the staff grill area. I notice the cook staff were wearing gloves and then I saw one cook, pick up a broom, swept off the tops of his shoes and proceed to sweep the floor in front of the food prep area. I observed the cook, gloves still on, rub and scratch his nose, and then proceed to the grill area handling food with the same gloves. I also observed a worn white fabric towel that was on the floor and being kicked around. The cook picked up the towel, same gloves still on. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. We left the place promptly after finishing our meal, and we DON'T PLAN TO RETURN AND WE DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. WHAT...
Read moreThis review is specific to the new Paula Deen Restaurant that recently opened in Destin. Visited the new Paula Dean Family style restaurant on 6 March at the Commons in Destin FL! Were excited about a new restaurant. The restaurant was really nice, as was the adjoining store. Staff greeted us immediately, nice and friendly, and we were seated immediately, given menus. Then we waited, and we waited. A server passed us by, then passed by again stopping asking if we’d been helped. We told her no, so she took our drink order. Then we waited some more. Finally another server came and explained the menu to us, then left to give us time to look over the menu. Then we waited some more. Finally the drinks came and we asked some questions regarding the menu and allergy concerns Peanuts/nuts and carrots. The Server left again, so we waited some more. She came back, we placed our order, and waited some more. She returns with a laminated sheet and tells Taylor she is sorry, but the chicken and dumplins she ordered has peanut oil and that she needs to order something else. The laminated sheet shows entrees and with an X in a column under Peanuts and nut allergies. Not many items were Peanut free as they use peanut oil for fried foods. They use the fried chicken leftovers to make the chicken and dumplings. We ended up with meatloaf and Pot Roast. We waited some more. A server arrives with our order and we dig in. Our entrees were cold, and sides were Luke warm, but we ate any way as who knew how long it would take for our server to return. A manager did stop by our table and asked how everything was. I told her our entrees were cold and she offered to bring new hot ones. At this point we had already eaten half so we declined. Our waitress comes back and we ask if we can have boxes for our leftovers. She told us their policy forbids giving boxes out. Naturally I was a little upset as we had extra food leftover without getting ANY refills on the sides and felt I should be able to take the food I am paying for with me. Not the case. So, food was pricey, ($46.75; $17.99 per person + drink prices) food served cold/lukewarm, service was mediocre, The interior was lack luster, however, ample seating and clean, but what I found most upsetting was the fact I could NOT take my leftovers home with me! I understand they had endless refills on sides, but we had NO refill on any side and feel since we paid for the food we should be able to take said food leftovers HOME! Another issue was their lack of Allergy free meals and willingness to accommodate those with food allergies. Bottom line, was nice to visit a new restaurant but we won’t...
Read moreI will start this by saying that i do come here fairly often. My family and I make the 40 minute trip down here almost every weekend for a quick day trip with some shopping, movie watching at the AMC, or enjoying just walking around enjoying the day.
This place has a mixture of locals and tourist, but Is keep pretty clean throughout and parking is abundant, but when I say abundant, it has more than the outlet mall that is nearby. They have a multi-level parking garage, parking on the rim of the commons and parking within as well.
They have a great selection of popular stores and eateries that vary in price, and there is also a books a million where you can hang out for a couple of hrs if you have nothing better to do. Starbucks is centrally located next to the AMC, and they also have a water fountain that gets decorated during all the holidays.
Near the water fountain is a newly built kids paradise, where parents can sit and relax & just watch their kids run around and play on some clams thingys.
I love that they have local artist paint murals every season, because wife and kids make It a point to walk around finding new ones. You will not be disappointed here. It’s also about 10 mins away from the outlets if your looking for some bowling or a quick...
